I have used this neurosurgeon group for several years. I started with Hugh Aronson and after he retired, I started see Joe TRAINA for my back problems. To start with their location is right off of US1 in South Miami. Dr. TRAINA has great bed side manners and always answered my questions in detail. His office staff is extremely friendly and Maria, the office manager schedules the surgery and confirms the coverage you have with your health insurance policy. I am on Medicare due to my back disability and their office accepts Medicare and in particular they cover Medica. The total out of pocket was $150 dollars. The Dr operates at South MIAMI hospital which is a 5 minute walk from his office to the hospital. I always recommend this Dr, since he is conservative and only does lumbar spine surgery if the conservative treatment has failed. I sent a friend to see the Dr where they fused two levels. My friend was in the hospital Fit 3-4 days due to rehabilitation. In my surgery on 9/4 I was up and walking 3-4 hours after an open spinal surgery at the L4 and or L5 levels. Another advantage of using this Dr is he operates at S Miami hospital, where they do their best to make you comfortable. As stated my surgery was 8/4 and the Dr signed my release papers shortly after 8 am. Once the paperwork was updated, I was placed in a wheelchair and I was heading home, 35 minutes after I saw the dr. The Dr went into great detail on what I showed or not do until my follow up on 9/17/19. In my opinion Dr. Traina is the only physician who I trust to operate on my back. Dr. Traina has my complete confidence. I always enjoy speaking with the Dr. the Dr also made sure the evening of the surgery, he had me on enough pain medication so the pain from the incision was minimal and I was able to rest as best as possible in a hospital.

Dr Traina was wonderful. I fractured my back after falling in hitched and the pain was unbearable. Dr Traina did a Kyphoplasty at South Miami Hospital and I felt amazing right after the surgery.

This "Neurosurgeon" is a rude quack!! With my MRI films and reports in hand, he barely read them and said to me (after a quickie exam), "the good news is......you'll never be paralyzed! The bad news is you have Arthritis". Yeah, right!! 2 mos. later I underwent a 5 hr. Lumbar Spinal Fusion with 5 days in the hospital and have never felt better! Dr. Traina blew it all off = even asked personal details like why I wasn't working even though I am on disability!!

Doctor Traina's office seems to be the problem. UHC Choice repeatedly has stated they would pay for surgery, given reference number and codes, and done everything according to their contract; yet, the Doctor's office keesp denying the surgery unless the get $500.00 upfront, and embarassed the patient in front of other patients at the office --this even after the Doctor determined the patient deos need the surgery, indeed.I suppose this office does not honor medical contracts unless it sees a profit upfront from the very patient who pays for the medical contract/insurance.

Doctor Trainas office is the problem. They want money up-front, even when the insurance company has assured and given reference numbers and code numbers to assure contract compliance. This is not an HMO but a Preferred Choice insurance the insurance repeatedly atteted to their willingness to pay for the surgery, yet the office ask for $500.00 before surgery embarassing the patient in font of others. Not great medical practice in this Miami, FL office.
