After numerous trips to the emergency ward with acute abdominal pain, I was assigned to Dr. Spittle. While he did due diligence in assessing me through tests, he failed to follow through on a scope which came back with a negative result. He told me that he believed it was cancer but the pathology was negative and showed me the pictures of a very diseased colon. He then removed my gall bladder (which incidentally was fine) but refused to do another scope. Only after requesting to be transferred to another doctor (which did eventually happen with the assistance of a wonderful ER doctor), was the repeat scope done. Bottom line was that I had stage 2 cancer which was about to break out to the surrounding organs. If I had stayed with Dr. Spittle, I would not likely be here to share my experience. I highly recommend that you do not use Dr. Spittle as your surgeon. He has the knowledge but not the desire - time to retire!

Very helpful, did an excellent job on my son's surgery, which was emergency surgery performed after sepsis had developed from the onset of severe Crohn's. Personality is a bit different which is most likely why some here give less than glowing reviews, he often doesn't look AT you when describing conditions/details.. has nothing to do with skill.

As yet another one who has nothing but bad things to say, i'll keep it short. This "doctor" is a hack. I went in for a routine gall bladder removal which went horribly wrong. What was a scheduled day surgery turned out to be a three week stay in the hospital. Thank goodness my family had me transferred out of that hospital to another in Vancouver. Not only did he nick an artery, which required a 3 pint blood transfusion, he didn't close the area where the gall bladder was, thus, I leaked bile and other wonderful things into my abdomen for 5 days. I was fortunate to come out of this alive, thanks to the life saving skills of the surgeons in the other hospital. PLEASE DO NOT SEE THIS "DOCTOR". I have met families of people who did not make it out of their surgery. You have more choices in the hospital in Vancouver and New Westminster. You only have one life. Live it well.

my husband was refered to him by our family dr, when we saw him he took one look and said oh no big deal and squeezed the living daylight out of this wound, which turn out to ba a gaglioma(sorry for spelling) and then schedueld surgey for the next month, that was a year ago and we still have not see him, the appt was cancelled several times, because he was on holidays, when we saw him at his office, after we were done he asked my husband, can you fix my toliet, he is going for the surgey, because it will take to long for another dr to see him, but after what i have seen, if there is any infections or anything not seeming correct, i will be going to the bc medical board and filing a formal complaint, and taking print of this web site

Dr.Spittle did a colostomy on my dad who has many other complications with his health and did an amazing job. HIs surgery was very long and very risky. I highly recommend him.

He arrived twenty minutes late and walked past a waiting room full of people reading the paper. He seemed to have no idea why I was there to see him, although my doctor sent him a detailed report. He did two different procedures on me and didn't seem to remember. All he did say is you don't have cancer and we left. I do not recommend him to anyone.

Terrible. Entered his examination rm. and it wasn't cleaned from the previous patient. He took a call on the speaker phone which concerned another patient. He talked about my situation in the hallway w/ me in front of others. He did not want to spend ANY time w/ me. Very unhelpful. Needed to schedule a stomach scope, next avail. time was at 2pm. Who can go from dinner to 2pm the next day w/o eating? This man is horrible and does not respect patient confidentiality & doesn't want to spend ANY time w/ patients. I went back to my GP and asked for another referral to a different DR. Waited over 3 months for this appt. and it was a TOTAL waste of time. Advice to dr: Clean your rms, respect confidentiality and spend time LISTENING. In other words, Do your damn job!

contrary to some, I find Dr. Spittel to be a very good surgeon. He has done thre colonoscopies on me, and no problem with any of them. allways greets me when entering and ask's how I am doing. so other patients I suggest you com eto your own conclusion rather than listening to all the hype you might here....
