Ratings for Dr. Evan S. Bates
3.1
The staff at the office of Dr. Bates is the worst I've ever dealt with. In addition, Dr. Bates' "bed-side" manner leaves much to be desired
One of the best experiences I have had in a doctor in a long time, took the time to explain ,listen, answer questions.. Like any relationship, personal or business each side has to respect the other in which this Doctor did.. I would refer Dr. Bates to anyone. He puts his patients needs at the top.
Good doctor, knows his stuff. But he is 30 minutes to an hour late for every visit.
My husband went to Dr Bates after being diagnosed with oral cancer. He was extremely critical of the oral surgeon who removed the first lesion stating that "oral surgeons have not done that kind of surgery in 3 decades", a statement I know to be false as I work in a large teaching hospital, and they do indeed do this kind of surgery. He was very critical of us also, for allowing the oral surgeon to do the excision. He performed a very cursory exam on my husband, only looking at his mouth, not using a scope, which the other doctors we saw after him did. His only option was immediate surgery to remove half the tongue and reconstruct. He was arrogant, condescending and had the attitude that if it wasn't done his way, it couldn't possibly be right. He coded the office visit incorrectly for what he did, and charged an exorbitant fee for it, which we have challenged. Husband said he didn't care if his MRI lit up like a Christmas tree, Bates would never touch him. He is now being treated with chemo and radiation with positive results, contrary to what Bates said could happen. With him, it's surgery, or nothing. Don't go!
I saw Dr. Bates for a problem last week. He was nice enough, although he did not look at the X-ray scan that was sent by a previous dr. He wanted me to have an MRI, which I did. After several days of not hearing from him as to the results of my MRI, I called his office and requested that he call. An office person called later that day and said that my MRI was normal and that Dr. Bates suggested that I return to my original dr. I had many questions since, although my MRI was normal, my problem sill exists! I had to pretty much harass his office personnel with several phone calls requesting to speak to Dr. Bates. When I finally was able to speak to him, he was quite uncaring and very critical of my original dr (who, by the way, had referred me to Dr Bates!) I feel that as soon as Dr. Bates decided that I was not a surgical candidate, he couldn't get me out the door fast enough! I feel abandoned and don't really know what to do next - my problem is still here!!!
This doctor was hardly concerened why I was really in his office for. I have nasal obstruction and he failed to address my issues properly. He rushed through the process and did not ask any questions or let me even ask any questions. The surgery was not a success but has made me feel worse over time. Instead of fixing my deviates nasal septum for breathing obstruction he sorta of did a half job and now I feel suffocated all the time. I am thinking about going back to him and taking it up with him soon.
I had a wonderful experience with Dr. Bates. He diagnosed my problem (Allergic Fungal Sinusitus) within minutes when my previous ENT missed it and couldn't help me. Although I did require surgery, that went very well also. Dr. Bates does listen and care about his patients. I would recommend this Doctor.
I am very disappointed in my experience with Dr. Bates. I felt rushed and like he wasn't even listening to me. He didn't even look at medical records from my doctor's office that directly related to my current issues. He interrupted me multiple times, and left me with no real answers. He didn't directly address any of my symptoms or concerns. I left feeling really frustrated and sad. I already don't feel well and to leave without even feeling heard stinks. I agree with another review that he was borderline rude. I would not recommend him at all. There are great doctors out there, he is not one of them. On another note, his staff was nice.
Dr. Bates did not seem to listen to my symtoms - it was as if he had made a diagnosis before entering the room. Bordering on rude, he was not a physician that I felt I could trust. I would not recommend him.
