Dr. Unger is the only orthopedist I consulted who correctly diagnosed my hip condition and found the solution to treat it without surgery. He also cured my sciatica a couple of years ago. Besides his excellent knowledge of his field, he is very personable, a good listener, and has outstanding judgement.

ANTHONY UNGER - (Rock Star) Dr Unger has but one local peer and no superiors in the ProPublica Medicare hip surgeon database. He is also a 5 star surgeon in the Consumer Checkbook Medicare hip surgeon database. Some might carp about ‘bedside manner’, i.e. he is himself whether or not in the presence of a patient. Others might whisper that he may have repressed issues due to the fact that he is a genuine [direct anterior] THA rock star who deserves more play time on the DC area surgical Spotify. Whatever the case, if you believe in the bell-shaped-curve your chances of avoiding a bad outcome in the course of a primary THA procedure with Dr Unger are as good as it gets without hopping a plane to Marina Del Rey or a slow boat to Newport News. As for me I went with Doctor U and Sibley Hospital. Anterior is by no means a piece of cake. The secret is to keep moving at the beginning in PT even if it hurts, so long as it doesn't hurt too much. And walk, walk, walk. At 7 months out I could use my Kohler center spray bidet with absolutely NO pain. It can't get much better than that……....….unless you happen to be my husband!

Dr. Unger did a hip revision of a botched emergency room surgery for a fractured hip from a fall a year earlier. Afterwards he was always available for advice and/or information. He gave me my life back! I've told my friends that if they every need hip or knee surgery I'll be upset if they don't go to him.

I was scared to death to have hip replacements done hearing horror stories from friends. When I found Dr. Unger I knew I was in excellent hands. Recovery was seamless and I am back dancing and hiking. I now have problems with my rotator cuff and will see him again soon.

I had developed orthoarthritis from a major knee surgery I had 17 years ago; My condition gradually became worst in the last two years. At first another specialist thought he could control my pain with injections which stop working after a year. I was recommended to Dr. Unger by my oncologist doctor at Sibley Hospital. I decided to get Dr. Unger to perform my totally knee replacement. Dr. Unger did a wonderful job. He went above and beyond to insure I did not get a infection in my knee. He sent me home with a phsical therapy and nurse for the first two weeks. My operation conducted by Dr. Unger and his team went so well that I had suffered from no pain and with minimum discomfort; It was truly a seamless and successful operation! Thank you, Dr.Unger!! - If you need knee replacement surgery, I would recommend Dr. Unger. I am now having problem with my right knee. I would not hesitate to go back to Dr. Unger for my second knee replacement.

My Injuries: Four years ago, I had developed traumatic arthritis from a traffic accident which had caused me to lose the ability to walk without aid; My rheumatologist recommened hip replacement surgery to improve my walking ability; My Surgeon: I have selected Dr. Anthony Unger from the Sibley Hospital to conduct my operation; Dr. Unger is a nationally recognized expert in total joint replacement and minimally invasive surgery; He has developed a technique with an anterior approach which is a true "muscle sparing" operation; This has several advantages, the patient recovered fastr and had less complication than the standard posterior approach; My operation conducted by Dr. Unger and his team went so well that I had suffered from no pain and with minimum discomfort; It was truly a seamless and successful operation! Thank you, Dr.Unger!! The Staff at the Hospital was also helpful during my time of needs - If you need hip replacement surgery, go to Dr. Unger!!

Dr. Unger is very confident and condescending towards patients. My knee surgery was unsuccessful. Four years later I still have pain and low range of motion. Despite strenuous therapy and my overall fitness, I am now mildly disabled and cannot climb or descend stairs in a normal manner. My last visit with him was sinmply to beg for some kind of amelioration. The only thing he told me was that he could reoperate and that he was as disappointed as I in the results of the first surgery. I cannot believe he gives a damn.

Dr. Unger performed my knee surgery three years ago and I can't tell whether it was successful as I still have pain and subsequent MRI's show scar tissue, which may be normal, but makes it difficult to determine what was accomplished with the surgery. Although I can't comment on his skills or the quality of the surgery, I can say that in my case, his doctor/patient communication style was poor. He seemed to be in a bad mood each time I saw him. Because of his demeanor with me, which I would describe as arrogant, and somewhat rude, I would not seek treatment from him again.

I went to Dr. Unger about 3 years ago for knee pain. He was personable and proactive about getting my problem under control. I'd already been to another doctor, who was rather awkward and unhelpful. Thanks to Dr. Unger, my knee pain was resolved.

He works as an "independent" medical examiner for Sedgwick, he is very unhelpful and his only concern is saving money for his employer. He doesn't care for the welfare of the patient he supposedly examine "independently". His only interest is keeping the insurance company happy and get more money. So much for medical ethics and a promise to help and not harm.
