Rate University of Alberta Hospital
Ratings for University of Alberta Hospital
ratings on basis of both observation of others in emergency and myself in emergency. the most desperately disappointing experience is with patient concerns. they have not yet received my complaint though i contacted them about isssues at least 4 times. oh well. there should be a provincial advocacy body but it musn't do watt these guys didn't or did depending on your relationships to lawyers.

I have been in and out of the U of A Hospital since I was 7 years old. (Now 25) I have had excellent Dr.s and amazing nurses! Only thing I would suggest, going to any Dr, have your questions ready and written down. They are busy, many people that need care, I think some people forget that patients come from all over Alberta not just locals. The food for patients isn't the greatest tasting and on occasion comes to you not so hot, but what you get is usually nutritional and they have many patients on many floors and sections to get food to at the same time. I have been in the hospital for two major surgeries, one small one and one biopsy, may be back for another minor surgery soon. I've seen neck and spine specialists, in which I had a 50% chance of being paralyzed from two major surgeries both of which I came out of fine and recovered quickly. My scars are minimal, and I owe some of those amazing Dr.s my life, as well as some if my family members. My sister had 10% chance of surviving blood poisoning and they saved her also. One of the nurses was caring enough to sponge bathe her and shave her legs while my sister was in a coma for a week and a half. My uncle had kidney surgery done there before I can remember, he hasn't needed a replacement yet, been about twenty years. They need more recognition then they receive. This is only a small portion of one family's dealings with this hospital and the staff, imagine how many lives have been saved and/or changed for the better! I have been in a few other hospitals in Edmonton and I wouldn't want to be cared for anywhere else but the U of A!

I am 89, and I have been in many hospitals in Canada US Germany. I was last in the UAH in 2001 for knee replacement surgery. My treatment excellent -- some of the finest nursing I have ever had. And now I am going in again this time for open heart surgery. I have high confidence that I will come out whole and well.

My father was admitted to the ER and spent over 12 hours there. Never saw the same nurse/student twice. Indifferant to his suffering, and finally put him into a room. He had complications from Chemo, and was a DNR/no extreme measures. They left him in the care of a MEDICAL STUDENT. Overall a disgraceful lack of care/compassion. There is not nearly enough space to list all of the negatives. SHAME ON YOU ALL

Disappointment in a hospital which has some of the best special divisions. Why would units not be equipped for people with physical disabilities. Could not enter into the bathroom with a wheel chair. Some incredibly bad RN's, LPN,s. More lacking the qualities of the few wonderful nurses. NA,s have that compassion and general caring that a lot of nurses do not . Rehabilitation is important , unfortunately this hospital or one specific unit felt that Twice a week would suffice . The treatment see on the elderly was frightening. I do want to say on a couple positive notes on a unit in 1 month 4 exceptional nurses , 5 exception NA's the hardest workers ever. A lot of nurses on their last year or just graduated please do not pick up the attitudes and bad bed side manners

This hospital is without question the worst in Edmonton. Everyone who goes in, comes out with an infection or something worse than what they went in for. They do not clean, the food is questionable, Doctors(not students) are impossible to find. Nursing Aids and LPN's seem to do all the work (which they do well, thank you for your hard work and dedication to nursing). This is poor excuse for a Hospital and it needs a serious overhaul. Shame on AHS

It is full of residents without a proper leader. I would not recommend anyone to this hospital especially if you are a woman.

My mother was in the U of A Acute Care, and she had excellent service, assistance and care. They are very caring in the acute care ward, just wish she could've stayed there instead of being moved around. She is not happy where she is now, but with the shortages, there is nothing more that could be done for her, so she was sent to a continuing care facility, but gets transported by ambulance to the U of A for treatment when needed, and this is very hard on her.
