I cannot in good conscience recommend Dr.Balan for treating thyroid issues. The level of apathetic care I received from her was staggering. She makes it very clear that she has no interest in treating patients who do not respond to prescriptions only. In the 12 months I was her patient, she never ran a single test beyond TSH and thyroid antibodies, which were through the roof due to Hashimotos. My TSH topped out at 62 while on the highest dose of Levo and her response was “there’s nothing more I can do” and referring me to another specialist. Does this sound like a physician who is providing quality care? I wasted 12 months with this practice and advise anyone reading this not to do the same.
She is on of my top favorite doctors. She listens!!! And she treats me for Type 2 diabetes. And went to another endocrinologist who was about to put me in my grave. She is beyond wonderful.
I agree with all the other reviewers. She me my only option was to take a prescription pill for the rest of my life and there was nothing I could do to treat the underlying cause. Not going back to her.
I do not recommend Dr. Balan for thyroid issues. She only prescribes synthetic T4 (Synthroid/levothyroxine) and uses TSH only to dose. She never checked thyroid antibodies, free T3, nor reverse T3 and only check free T4 once when I first started seeing her. If I told her I was still having symptoms she would just check TSH and prescribe more levothyroxine, not once did she check my iron levels or vitamin D levels, which I later found out from another doctor were both low and what was causing most of my symptoms. The proverbial straw with Dr. Balan for me was when she raised my levothyroxine and it caused me to have heart palpitations. When I told her this she told me I needed to see a cardiologist. I went back to my PCP who ran some tests which indicated my heart was fine, they lowered my levothyroxine dosage, and I haven't had palps since (2 years now). Dr. Balan may be fine for diabetes treatment but if you have Hashimotos, hypothyroid, or hyperthyroid I would go somewhere else.
Terrible, never checks anything but TSH , just says that says everything. Never helped me one bit. Does not like questions or to be questioned about anything. Not a caring doctor. Might as well be on your own. Never tried to find out what was going on with me. I'm gone
TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE. Dr Balan was cold and uncompassionate. I was overcharged due to a mix up with my insurance and it has been over 5 months of me still trying to chase down the refund the office owed me. The billing department was NO help -- never answered the phone or returned my calls. Please go anywhere other than this facility.
This was the worst experience with a medical professional. Her demeanour was cold and abrasive. She introduced herself and say with her head back glaring at you like you're wasting her time. I had to pull information out of her. She was not willing to help and when I asked to have her examine my throat for my already diagnosed thyriod condition, she seemed insulted...only pushing pharmaceuticals at me. When asked to elaborate on t3 & t4...she was annoyed and said it didn't matter. This person lacks basic social skills. She could work on her bedside manner. I left with more questions then answers and when asked to see the other specialist k was told my her incompetent staff that it was up to the office manager to switch even when detailing her lackluster approach. Will be venturing to other network specialists. This doctor could care less.
Dr. Balan has been my doctor for 3.5 years. I switched to Dr. Balan because I needed better treatment for my Type 2 Diabetes, After a very thorough assessment that included labs, review of medical records from other doctors and discussion with me, the answer to other health problems was discovered. Now, she treats my Hypothyroidism, High Cholesterol, High Triglycerides and accompanying symptoms. Dr. Balan understands and knows my diagnoses, the symptoms, the best treatment for me and what I can do to manage these problems. I have never questioned Dr. Balan. I know I'm receiving the best care possible for these conditions. She is the first Dr. to directly address my diet, what foods to eat, how much of each food type, etc.. and the relationhip between food, insulin levels and Diabetes. She took the time to break it down so i could understand it, something that diabetic websites failed to do. Staff: I have been disappointed several times. Important voicemails to a department supervisor were not returned, instructed to use community resource however, no one knew the name, location, phone, contact number or the services available. About a year ago, there were changes in the front office staff that have not been positive. I don't feel welcomed. I feel like I'm bothering the receptionist when I check in. I spoke with the office manager to give him a compliment about the office staff and shortly afterwards,, that awesome group of employees were replaced with hateful, unhelpful, employees that roll their eyes at me when I ask a question. Communication, increased response time, solutions and results would be a normal expectation instead of wondering why you haven't heard from the office, and patient satisfaction would improve because the office runs smoothly and effectively. The office is the only downfall of this medical practice. However, it has bearing on my remarks about Dr. Balan. Despite my negative experiences with the office staff, Dr. Balan is an excellent doctor providing outstanding care.
I had an appointment with Dr. Balon this past Monday. She came in and checked my thyroid and said that I definitely have an underactive thyroid. I told her that I did not want to take a prescription medication, that I would like to try something natural first. She immediately stood up and said, "Then we have nothing else to talk about. This was a total waste of my time and yours", then she left. I was still sitting there with questions and she would not even talk to me. I feel that it was completely obvious that she is getting paid by the drug companies to write prescriptions and that she did not care at all about helping an ailing patient. And I had to pay $35 for that! Disgusting!!! I would not recommend her for anything!
Terrible Endocrinologist! Doesn't listen. May be experienced with type II but not familiar enough to treat type I. Absolutely terrifying to listen to her recommendations.
