01/07/14 5 4 4 5 Saw him 9 years ago when my mother had an aneurism. Doc was very kind to her and gave us great comfort. While I will admit he was a little stiff and can come off strange, he saved her life and also helped her tremendously. 3 weeks ago I took my MRI to him due to a bulge in my L5 and also S1. He nailed the diagnosis and did surgery right away. After 10 years of back pain I have had no pain since the surgery. I had a tough recovery and he was good about helping me. He is very too the point and I can see where people might be put off by him. I found him to be very good. The best I have seen. He saved my mom and changed my life. If you need patch adams, he is not your guy. Need to be cured and hear it plain as day. He is the best.

08/06/14 3 5 5 5 Max was AWESOME!!! I must admit - after reading some of these negative remarks, I was a little concerned... but my primary care doctor highly recommended him. So I figured - "you can't please all of the people all of the time". and of course in regards to spinal surgery - you DON'T want to be the one who doesn't get pleased... Anyway - I went to the hospital the day of surgery and discovered that the hospital had "deleted my account" due to some idiotic computer issue. Max came out in his scrubs and smiled and asked me: "How are you doing? - how do you feel? are you ready?" I told him about the account problem with the hospital - and I was pleasantly surprised at his reaction.. He got pissed off with the hospital and started telling them stuff like: "this patient is ready for surgery, and he's GOING to have his surgery today! I don't care what the problem is with your records - he's been approved, and you need to get him in to pre-op!" - I feel MUUUCH BETTER :-) He did a GREAT job!  Respond

17/05/13 5 5 5 5 I can't believe all of these negative comments about Dr. Medary. I saw him on a Thursday back in 2007, and after seeing how much pain I was in squeezed me in for neck surgery the next Tuesday. He is an amazing surgeon and his bedside manner is quite good. The hospital wanted to send me home the same day, but after learning that I lived alone Dr. Medary arranged for me to stay overnight. On all follow up visits my waits were minimal, the staff was always very helpful and efficient. I highly recommend Dr. Medary and would go to war with him.

04/01/13 1 1 1 2 condesending, arrogant. After surgery he told me it will just take time !! That was in Feb 2012. I can atleast walk now but still have pain/problems and after several return visits all he can say is just give it time !!! Two hour wait for a 2 min visit. My foot is numb and the pain radiates in my hip.. the surgery was repair to a ruptured disc in my lumbar area. Am looking for a new doctor....would NOT recommend this arrogant man to anyone...

10/02/12 1 1 1 2 The best word to use for this guy is douche. He is condescending and rude. His office staff left me on hold for 20 mins. I called to get a refill, and the staff member said she would pull my file and talk to the doctor. That was a week ago, and I have never heard from them. Avoid this guy at all costs

03/01/12 5 5 5 5 Wow! Just reading all the comments about Dr. Medary. I'll say this, if I had needed surgery, I'd have used him in a second! His diagnosis was direct and very specific and though I had serious problems with my spine (TM), I did not need the surgery, but he DOES NOT beat around the bush and tells it like it is! And when it comes to my spine and being in wheelchair the rest of my life, I'll take him over a "nice guy" all day long! Maybe bedside manner is more important at some point in time, but I'm far less worried about that junk than I am im my spinal chord. So, though I do have respect for others opinions, in this case, I'd say use Dr. Medary ANY time you can. I had an appt. with another Dr. first for three months down the line and they were "trying" to fit me in a little sooner 'cause they were too busy otherwise! I'd have been crippled by the time they finally fit me in, and Dr. Medary worked me in, in one day based on syptoms, etc... so I'd say use him all day long!!!!  Respond

24/06/11 4 1 1 2 I waited over an hour and a half to see Dr Medary, yet he was in and out of my room within two minutes. Told me I didn't need surgery and anything else I might try may or may not help - shrugged and stated "I don't know" when asked. This man was very rude, arrogant, and condescending. I would not recommend him to anyone.  Respond

17/06/11 4 5 5 5 This Doctor is the best. Operated on my Dad with a delicate pinch nerve in the neck/spine area that was crippling him. His recovery is like magic. He is knowledgeable and caring. He doesn't baby sit patient if that is what you are looking for. He however spent time to explain the severity of the problem and proceeded to do the surgery. Excellent surgeon.

28/04/11 5 5 5 5 I can't believe the comments stated here about Dr. Medary. He is one of the very best neurosurgeons in the world. He is very kind, very informative and a great decision maker. I have been to him for both a brain tumor and a back problem. In both cases I could not have asked for a better surgeon or a better result. I have recommended him to at least a dozen people who are extremely happy with their results. I guess you can't please all the people all the time, but the people who wrote the negative comments here must have met a different doctor than I did. As far as I'm concerned I would recommend him to anyone.

23/08/10 5 5 5 5 8 years ago Dr. Medary treated and operated on my wife for a herniated disc. I remember going into the office with her and found him to be very knowledgeable and cordial. After they wheeled her in to the operating room, he saw I was nervous about her being operated on and assured me he would have her back to me better than new, and he was right!! No lower back pain!! A month ago she was diagnosed with an apparent arachnoid cyst in her brain by her primary care physician after years of migraines and vision problems. When her doctor asked if she had a neuro surgeon in mind, she asked if Dr. Medary was available, and he was. We are headed to his office in an hour and I can not believe all these negative comments I've read.

02/04/10 1 1 1 1 About a year ago my father began having trouble with his eyesight. His vision was out of phase. So we immediately went to the hospital. An MRI and CT Scan was performed because the symptoms could be associated with stroke. No stroke was detected, but an aneurysm was detected. A ticking time bomb. I waited for the doctor to come in with a few questions about the condition. I really wanted to characterized this discovery. Dr. Medary walks in after we waited for 3 hours. I am a computer engineer, not a doctor. On my forth question, Dr. Medary looked at me and said, "I will take you in and spit you out". His ego is beyond any words. His recommendation was to simply 'WATCH IT TO SEE IF IT GROWS'. I saw three doctors after him and they all said that Dr. Medarys recomendation was a medical malpractice. A doctor in Mayo clinic fixed the aneurysm with a coiling method as outpaitient surgery. I should of just asked him one question. Have you ever fixed an aneurysm ? He would have answered, NO.

02/04/10 5 4 5 5 Dr. Medary is the BEST. Did surgery on New Year's Day because our son was in so much pain. Our son hasn't felt so good in 15 years since surgery AND a friend told me a week later that her Orthapedic had just told her she would have to live with her pain. I asked her to see Dr. Medary for a second opinion and after surgery 2 weeks later he had completed her surgery and she was pain free. A wonderful, caring, kind doctor whom I would recommend to anyone and everyone. We are so thankful to him. Both of our sons feet were numb and leg and in just a few weeks the feeling was back. Dr. Medary listens and is such a professional.  Respond

20/03/10 4 4 1 3 Went to him for second opinion, and have regretted every minute of it, and the $20 co-pay. Seemed that he could care less about me. Have had back pain for 15 years, and dealt with it. Enough is enough. Leg pain, left foot numb, etc. Have two herniated disks. Can see it plain as day on the MRIs. Advised me to take care of the leg pain, and "deal with the back pain." Not exactly what I was looking for from someone who was to cut me open and take away the pain. Asked me if I was ready "tomorrow" to have the surgery. Worried me that his availability was so open. Very egotistical. Extremely egotistical. Don't know if I can say it any stronger. Thankfully, have found the surgeon that other surgeons/doctors turn to for their surgeries. I think that says something about the one I chose. The only nice thing I can say is that the waiting rooms have the most comfortable furniture I have sat on in a doctor's office. At least its one positive.

02/12/09 4 1 2 2 He didn't give any attention to my case. If you need a second opinion, don't waste your time visiting Dr. Medary because he won't go through details with the patient. He was very pretentious and certainly way rude.

27/10/09 3 1 1 2 The first visit was nice. Then on follow-up w/him to consult on having surgery, he became extremely angry because I mentioned my Prim.doc. looked at my M.R.I., his ego was crushed, & couldn't get me out of there quick enough. I work in the medical field & couldn't imagine treating a patient the way he treated me!! Won't be letting him cut on me!! Imagine if I were to have a problem during post-op. Need to think about those things doc!!!

02/12/08 4 5 5 5 Went in for C5-C6 fusion 2 years ago after nothing else helped. Going with Dr Medary was the best decision I made. Great bedside manners (post-surgery). He explained everything I was going to go thru before the surgery and was also great communicating with my wife immediately after the surgery. Hands down (based on talks with others with similar issues and different surgeons) the best out there!!!

10/04/07 5 1 2 I agree with the prior comments. He's very egocentric and comes across as insecure about his abilities and overcompensates by being threatened by anyone who questions his decisions. Dr. Medary - Understand that this is a consumer's market, and you need some serious help. Perhaps a visit from the doh would "help" you.  Respond

24/10/06 2 1 2 Saw this doctor for lower back pain; very rude could not wait to get me out of his office to see "a friend" in the waiting room (overhear his conversation with the reception). Accused me of not knowing how much pain I was experiencing and said "there is not a XXXX thing" he could do for me. Recommended me going to a psychiatrist. My next doctor looked at my X-rays and found that I had a slipped disk.

06/01/06 2 4 5 Dr. Medary performed a 2 level c-spine fusion on me. I feel very confident in his abilities as I researched out doctors before deciding to have surgery. His bed side manners were gentle and caring. I will admit however, that I have gotten in late to see him with every appointment. Considering the time he spent with me while holding others up I no longer mind the wait. Highly reccomended! Looks like Tampa Bay coach John Gruden...a hottie but without the attitude!

03/01/06 5 5 5 Totaaly excellent care and surgery and full recovery from being on holiday in Kissimmee one morning and Max diagnosed a brain tumour and operated and I was in recovery within 30 hours from time of being admitted. I had complained here at home in the isle of Wight Uk to my GP whom I worked for as a nurse for 4 years but tghey told me it was my age. It took Max 5 plus hours and I flew home on the 11 Spetember 2001. I reaaly do know it was not my turn to die then. If I ever get a similar problem I will return to him for advice, I did not have a clue what was growing in my head. I was back at work in 3 months thanks to Maz and he was wonderful with our two yuong children, He was open honest and made me feel safe but understand the risks involved.  Respond

28/07/05 5 5 5 Dr. Medary is very professional and knowledgeable in his field. 01/07/05 4 1 1 Very rude individual. Was overly concerned about my daughter's voice and didn't bother to ask if she was hard of hearing. It was very disconcerting that he seemed to lose track of himself during the office visit, instead focusing on the volume of people's voices. It was almost like a tic or a control issue for him. It was very rude and he was very ostentatious.  Respond
