25/06/13 2 3 2 3 A knee replacement over a year ago has not gone well. Dr. V. would not listen to my complaints that the knee kept pulling to the left. It has been confirmed by 2 other ortho surgeons that the bone has been cut on the wrong angle, making me knockkneed and the leg out of alignment. The knee will have to be replaced at twice the risk factor as the first surgery. In the meantime, my other knee has taken so much strain that it now has to be replaced. I found Dr. V. to be very abrupt, arrogant, and unwilling to listen to my complaints.  Respond

24/12/12 1 1 1 1 I am in need of a knee replacement and would never go to this Dr. In my small circle of friends I've spoken too there were 7 people who had him for surgery and all have had poor results...mostly crooked limbs...He should never be able to operate on anyone. This man is a disaster which needs to be stopped.  Respond

18/04/12 2 4 1 2 TRAIN WRECK!! I didn't listen to the ratings...I thought dealing with the bad bedside manner was worth not waiting for a more respected surgeon. The guy is nice/pleasant when you can get him to talk though the first time we met he didn't even say Hello or introduce himself. But that is nothing compared to the lack of information and care you received. I understand these rating websites are only as good as the information on them and that you can only take people's comments so far, but if I can sway anyone from choosing this doctor I’ll feel a bit better. My knee won't but my heart might :)  See Responses

13/01/11 4 5 3 5 After ten years of living with a previous unsuccessful surgery by another doctor, pain, badly bent knee, Dr. V. Venugopal offered to do give me a total knee replacement and also promised to straighten the bent leg. This now would be a knee revision posing a more complications than a total knee replacement. He booked the OR for plenty of time to dig out the old prosthesis, and then give me a total knee replacement. He also took care to cut over the previous incision line to prevent extra scarring, cosmetically. Although it is early in my recovery, it is very obvious that my leg is almost perfectly straight, and will definitely be straight through my physiotherapy follow up exercises. I am so very grateful to this man for giving me the opportunity to finally walk without a limp. It is too early yet to determine how well the pain level will improve, but I feel confident that I will be free of that problem too. So far, all I can say is Thank You Dr. Venugopal for making me a new person.  Respond

26/02/10 4 5 5 5 I am seeing him for knee problems. Over time I have had about 10 appointments both at his office and at the local hospital. I had partial knee replacement done 9 months ago. I have found him knowledgable, professional and punctual. He has always discussed issues fully with me and answered all my questions. He is very efficient in all he does. My surgery was not totally successful in that I still have pain but there has been a great improvement. He appears to be a skilled surgeon. My only disappointment is the outcome of my surgery in that I was hoping for total relief, but everyone I have bumped into in all my visits reported successful surgery so my outcome appears exceptional. I recommend Dr. Venugopal.  Respond

19/10/09 2 1 1 2 Horrible experience. He repeatedly tried to talk me out of the surgery because he deemed it to be a problem I could live with, even if I was in pain. After the surgery I had a check up to remove the bandages. Despite the fact that the bandages fell off themselves a few days prior, he never even noticed!! During this same check up, he literally looked at my hand for 5 seconds, never asked me to move it etc, to see if everything was fine, and left the room. I had to shout out to him that I had a few questions, considering I couldn't really move my hand that much. He shouted back at me to ask someone else. Um...isn't that his job, to answer questions and actually make sure the patient's surgery was successful??? Since then my hand has not returned to normal function and any effort I have made to contact him, just to see if this is normal, has gone unanswered. I was told it was not his problem.  Respond

10/03/09 5 4 5 5 I recently had my 1st consultation with Dr V. I found him pleasant, knowledgeable & helpful. He took his time to discuss options and write his report while I was there. The plans we made leave me hopeful for a solution to my problem  Respond

23/01/09 1 1 1 1 I have been waiting for almost one year to have spinal surgery. I'be been off work for 6 months and am barely walking. Minutes before surgery I was told it was cancelled due to lack of beds. I was devastated as I've waited in intense pain for so long I was excited to have surgery so I could carry on with life at a better quality. One week has passed and I still have not heard from him or his office. I have no idea when they will give me another surgery date. I have left messages and they aren't being returned. This doctor would hardly speak to me while I was in his office. I would ask questions and he would cut me short and not answer. I felt as if he has no repsect for women nor cared about the constant pain and medications that were robbing me of my life. I am 46 yrs old and spend everyday all day on the couch. Walking, standing is too painful. I feel like I am back to square one and alone.  Respond

05/05/08 5 5 4 5 I lived with pain in my hips most of my life. He said I surely needed new hips and had total hip replacements on both. It's incredible how good I feel physically with no more pain.It does a lot for you mentally as well not having the pain . He was great.  Respond

08/04/08 2 2 2 2 Very poor comunication skills and bedside manner. Comes of as being very uncaring, although this may not be the actual case. Appears to rush things and now appears to only want to do simple scopes, etc. (More$$$)??? He did a simple knee scope for me and it worked well. I had to call his office many times to have simple questions answered as he cannot communicate even the basics to a patient effectively. Should work alone in a Lab as to be an effective Medial Doctor one needs to communicate effectively.  Respond

23/09/07 5 5 4 5 Dr. Venugopal tends to be a little clipped in his speech and to the point. This can come off as uncaring, but I don't think that is the case. He is a little more attentive when you are in hospital than in his office. He replaced my right hip and it went great. I will be having the other one done next summer. I made sure I know what to expect and did research on hip replacements on my own before the surgery. If you want your hand held - go elsewhere. If you want it done right, Dr. Venugopal will do it. I'm happy with him.  Respond

08/09/07 1 1 1 3 I saw this man for a shoulder injury in the later half of the 90's and had him perform a surgical repair. I wouldn't let him operate on my worst enemy after my experience. When I later had a serious motorcycle accident which involved destroying my other shoulder, again he came to my room at the Dartmouth general as he was the on call orthopod. After he said he would have to operate and fix my shoulder, I contacted my G.P. and let her know that he would not be touching me under any circumstance. I was then sent to Dr Gerald Reardon, head of orthopedics at the QE II health center and was provided with superb care. Avoid Venugopal at all costs, you will not be happy with your treatment.  Respond

17/08/07 2 3 1 2 Venugopal has very poor communication skills. I felt that I did not get adequate post surgery care instructions. He showed little interest in the patient. I could have lived with that except for the fact that the result was unsatisfactory. I am now being referred to another surgeon to correct the problem. I would say definitely avoid this surgeon. I do not reccommend him to any one. When I tried to contact his office, there was no reply to my messages. At one point I considered going to his office to get an appoinment. Later I saw my Family Dr. and he preferred to another surgeon. This has not been a good experience.  Respond

04/06/07 1 1 1 Worst doctor ever!!! These ppl say he has long waiting times obviously don't have a knee injury because Venugopal is the one you see if you DON'T want to wait long because so many people avoid him!! Wait longer and see Dr. Legay or Dr. Stanish they are both fantastic!!! Stay away from this doctor if possible he is rude, and quite short with his patients. A little personality could go a long way!

25/02/07 2 4 5 He repaired my third degree shoulder separation over 10 years ago and I am very please with the results. I've trained and competed in martial arts as well have been employed in a very active trade. I haven't had as much as one ache as a complication, so I am very pleased with the results. At first we did not communicate well, I was confused to what exactly was going to happen, though afterwards recall all points of question being brought up...somehow I still left his office not realizing what to expect. I spent 3 days in hospital when I was planning for day surgery, during that three nights I had 0 of my questions answered...I wasn't told when I could leave until the final day. If I was more aware of what was actualy going to happen, I would have absolutely nothing to complain about. A small price to pay for a, seemingly, perfect repair. I would gladly see Dr. Venugopal again for my orthopedic concerns.  Respond

22/02/07 1 4 5 Best in the city, I waited just so I could see him. Great doctor and for this reason has a large schedule and seems backed up. He was honest and helpful without chit chatting about things that didn’t matter. I would rather wait and get accurate information and judgement then have to go back 4 times to another doctor.  Respond

12/01/07 5 5 5 This doctor was very knowledgeable. Surgery was only offered as a last effort to help with my arthritis and once done, was extremely successful. He visited me in the hospital every day even through a holiday long weekend. If I had questions or concerns and called his office, these issues were dealt with very quickly. This province is lucky to have Dr. Venugopal.  Respond

10/01/07 5 5 5 Great Physician! Saw my mother for 3 separate fractures and did surgery on 2. Very caring and concerned, spoke to her directly, and listened to her concerns. Came every day in hospital, sometimes after having spent many long hours in surgery. She is now walking at 82 years old without a cane. He is very focused on what he does and truly desires to provide the best care. Will tell you the truth despite what you may want to hear.  Respond

21/12/06 4 3 4 my husband was suffering with a ruptured disc. this doctor was truthful with him...explained all was was happening...told him it would take a long time to heal, and would only do surgery as an absolute last resort. we liked him. He took the time to explain and sho diagrams of what was occuring to cause all the pain he had.  Respond

07/12/06 4 1 1 This doctor barely heard a word I said. Rushed me out the door after 3 min. Didn't answer half my questions or gave one word answers. Barely looked at me let alone made any eye contact. Refused to look at my MRI said he only deals with CT scans. Would not perscribe pain medication although the MRI should 3 herniated disks and my doctor deferred perscribing anything until I had been seen by his expertise. I ended up in the emergancy room which they said he should have helped me. Unhelpful, rushed and unattentive. I cried all night.  Respond
