Ratings for Dr. Robert Isaacs
3.4
Such a horrible experience with this doctor. he overlooked something in the first surgery so a second one had to be performed. He was so arrogant, rude and he seemed to think he could treat patients anyway he wanted to. I can only pray he has changed his ways. Never will I go back to him. I reported his behavior but received a reply saying I had no proof. How could I have no proof when my husband and best friend was in the room with me and saw his unprofessional behavior. Have lost a lot of respect for Duke/
Arrested for assault on a female and fired from Duke look up his mugshot.
I consulted Dr. Isaacs about the numbness and tingling in my arm and he diagnosed my cervical spine disease and advised me on surgical and rehab options. He was enormously helpful and generous with his time. Listens and is thoughtful. Highly recommend.
I VISITED DR. ISAACS LATE 2011 AFTER YEARS OFSEVERE PAIN THAT WAS GETTING WORSE.. I WAS TOLD ABOUT DR. ISAACS, SO I WENT FOR A VSIT. I FOUND HIM TO BE VERY FOCUSED ON ME AND MY PROBLEMS, AND SERIOUS BUT PLEASANT. AFTER HE HAD ALL THE INFORMATION HE NEEDED, HE WAS VERY DETAILED AND INFORMATIVE ABOUT MY PROBLEMS, WHICH WERE MULTIPLE AND MORE SEVERE THAN I KNEW. HE ADVISED ME OF ALL THE POSSIBILITIES AND PITFALLS, ETC, LIKE HE HAD ALL THE TIME IN THE WORLD. I APPRECIATED HIM NOT SUGAR COATING IT AND TELLING ME THE TRUTH. THERE WAS SO MUCH WRONG I WAS HEADED FOR MORE PAIN AND A WHEELCHAIR. HE TOLD ME WHAVE TO BE A SERIES OF 3 SURGERIES TAKING A YEAR TO COMPLETE...ONE THING THAT REALLY STOOD OUT WAS THAT HE WAS VERY CONCERNED ABOUT MY MENTAL ATTITUDE AND WITH EACH SURGERY HE TALKED TO ME AGAIN ABOUT THAT! SO I DID THIS AT 68 YEARS OLD AND HE FIXED SEVERE SCOLOSIS. SPINAL STENOSIS, BONE SPURS, CYST, ETC! THIS MAN WORKED A MIRACLE ON ME AND I GOT MY LIFE BACK OR BETTER YET, A NEW LIFE! HE NEVER MISLEAD OR LIED TO ME.....ALWAYS STRAIGHT UP! ALL OF THIS WAS DONE IN 2012, AND WITH AMAZING RESULTS! I WILL BE FOREVER GRATEFUL. HIS ASSISTANT, SARAH IS ALSO WONDERFUL. I NEVER EXPERIENCED A PROBLEM WITH HIS STAFF, AND THIS WAS GOING ON FOR A YEAR! HE DID EXPLAIN TO ME THAT I WAS NOT A CANDIDATE FOR MORE CONSERVATIVE OPTIONS, AND WHY! IT WAS CERTAINLY NOT AN EASY YEAR BUT I AM SO GLAD I DID IT THIS WAY AND I AM GLAD THE GOOD LORD LED ME TO HIM.
Saw Isaacs for second opinion reguarding cyst in my spine. He said the cyst was cause of the pain in my hip, and the only relief is surgery to remove the cyst, and spinal fusion to prevent a cyst from re-appearing. No mention of conservative non-surgical alternatives, no mention of possible spinal cord, neurological or Cauda Equina concerns from this surgery. Low and behold his poor skills caused all the problems I've mentioned, and he now states falsely that he warned me of those concerns, which is a lie. He has no integrity and is completely dishonest to say the least. His staff as well as the Risk Management Dept at Duke are complicit with his lies and dishonesty as well.
I warn everyone I talk to, stay away from Robert Isaacs MD and ovoid duke like your life depends on it. I learned too late just how deceptive duke sham advertising is. Rated among the worst in the nation for surgery complications and death. Fact, watch for medicare data ratings.
I went to Dr. Isaacs with a very difficult spine problem that had made my life miserable for years. He did a complicated surgery that lasted for 5 hours correcting severe scoliosis, stenosis, spurs, stenosis, bulging discs, etc. He worked wonders. A year later and I am a new person. I have 6, 2" scars on my side and back. The recovery was difficult and I wasn't terribly pleased with the staff at Duke Medical. I've read other reviews of Dr. Isaacs re. his lack of bedside manner, which I disagree with. What you want is a doctor who has the skill to solve the problem and this doctor has that. He has given me my life back. Thank you, Dr. Isaacs.
I was referred to Duke, due to a very difficult tumor "removal" surgical procedure. I had read all the reviews and had mixed feelings about going through with the appointment(which is first with his N.P) and then if it seems like you are a candidate you see the doctor at a future appointment. I really liked Sarah and felt like I wanted to proceed to at least hear what Dr Isaacs had to say. I had prepared myself for a very abrasive person but who was suppose to be very good in his field. What I met was a pleasant, detail oriented doctor who explained more than ANY other Dr. I have seen in 12 years. He explained everything that could happen if they try and remove, debulk, or leave the tumor alone. He also explained the surgical procedure entirely, and possible outcomes from it. He answered all questions we had and I never felt like he was in a hurry or my questions were frivolous. He spent more than an hour with me and only after I said ok and he asked again, if there were any other questions or anything I needed did he say "ok" and stood to leave. He then asked if I wanted his NP to follow up with me in case I had additional questions or just leave me alone and let me make my decision. For me this visit was very informative and helpful even if he couldn't offer me the "miracle surgery" I had hoped for. What I did get was honesty, information and someone who came across very capable and pleasant. At this point I'm undecided about the surgery but as far as recommending Dr Isaac's I absolutely would!
My stenosis, degenerative discs, and other related problems had evolved to the point that I could not be on my feet for more than 5 minutes without significant pain in my lower back, hip, and leg. Less than 8 weeks later, I'm walking for long periods of time with no pain, and I have returned to work (to be fair, it's an office job, so it's not like I'm doing any heavy lifting). Fortunately, my company's medical director referred me to Dr. Isaacs, and I'm eternally grateful. I had seen 2 other surgeons and received conflicting surgical plans. Dr. Isaacs was clear on what he wanted to do and why. He removed 2 discs and replaced them with plastic "cages," then fused my L4-L5-S1 joints with screws and rods. I have 2 small incisions in my lower back, which have healed with no problem. I see some reviews from folks who don't think much of Dr. Isaacs' bedside manner; but in multiple interactions with him (first visit, during hospital stay, and 6-week check-up), I found him to be extremely helpful, taking time to explain everything and answer all my questions (which were many). During my hospital stay, when I was having trouble with my medications, he made it a priority to make the necessary changes and to explain to my wife what he was doing and why. Dr. Isaacs' NP, Sarah, is also excellent and was very helpful in scheduling me for surgery and answering numerous questions during my 6-week check-up. I can't say enough good things about these folks. They're busy, and they move with purpose, which could be interpreted as not "warm and fuzzy," but they are gifted professionals whom I believe want the best for their patients. I hope and pray I don't have to have back surgery ever again, but if I do, I will be calling Dr. Isaacs. I can't imagine a more competent and compassionate professional.
