At Hull Hospital I had 2 appointments with Dr. Karam after 5 years of progressively worse chronic neck pain. A CT scan showed multiple problems including arthritis, bone spurs, bulging disks, severe stenosis, degeneration and some compression of the the spinal cord.

At the first appointment Dr. Karam did a 30 second physical exam, asked about my pain, prescribed pain meds and said he needed an MRI which had already been ordered by another doctor.

The 2nd appointment would have lasted less then 5 minutes including him looking at the MRI cd I brought with me, except I asked some questions and he tried to get up to leave the room 3 times.

He asked me what meds I was taking? He should have asked me "how are you doing on the meds?"(he prescribed meds at the 1st appt) I guess he didn't read my file.

I had no written MRI report, he never received it and he didn't check in the the hospital data base for it. The MRI people at CHEO told me a report would be sent. It seems to be lost and I had to pick the cd myself.

His final diagnosis was arthritis with no spinal cord compression, surgery would be of no benefit, get my family doctor to refer me to the Ottawa Pain Clinic. No further explanation was provided, no mention of bulging disks, spurs or stenosis. My questions were not answered clearly.
I did not feel confident with his diagnosis and I will be seeking a second opinion, I asked him for a referral to Montreal, he did not provide a name or info.
