I was assessed by Dr. Paul Yong at the Vulvodynia Program (VGH) when I was twenty years old, in 2016. The lack of expertise/iatrogenic harm by him and the Vulvodynia Program completely destroyed my youth. He did not use the Vulvodynia Diagnostic Algorithm nor the tests necessary to diagnose the condition I really have (neuroproliferative vestibulodynia) – no vulvoscopy, no VAT test. This is advertised as a specialty program, but there was no expertise. He allowed a medical student to force a speculum past the damaged tissue in my intake appointment. I was given a diagnosis of “vulvodynia” which is not a diagnosis; it is an umbrella term for a number of subtypes of vulvar pain, each with a different cause and treatment. The physiotherapist there would stretch my damaged vestibule tissue with her fingers while I was in the lithotomy position, insisting that this was “central nervous system sensitivity” and not a tissue problem. She would tell me to breathe while I writhed in pain. It felt like being assaulted with a machete. After each session, I would be bedridden with despair and confusion. After joining online support groups and reading the literature, I had an inkling that I had congenital neuroproliferative vestibulodynia. I now know that my vestibule was always damaged and that I need a surgery called a full vestibulectomy. I consulted with Dr. Irwin Goldstein in San Diego recently (this surgery is not offered in Canada), but I no longer have the money for this surgery. My vulvar vestibule is burgundy-red and terribly inflamed. The trauma and genital torture I experienced in the Vulvodynia Program is beyond words. Dr. Yong was not a sexual pain specialist and was incompetent is assessing women with genital pain.
Dr Paul Yong saved my life from fibroids. I was bleeding so heavy and even had a miscarriage. And I thought I may never have children since I'm already on my early 40's. After his successdul surgery, I got pregnant again and now have a healthy 6 month baby girl. Thank you Dr Paul Yong for saving my life and helping me create a new one. Forever grateful. Praise God for using Dr. Paul Yong by saving lives and creating new ones! 😄🙏🙂
I had excision surgery with Dr. Yong over a year ago at UBC Hospital. I came over from Victoria to be treated at BC Women’s Hospital for Endometriosis. I had been in pain along time and couldn’t find answers on the Island. I was very afraid for surgery and had lots of questions. Dr. Yong was very thorough, patient, professional, and skillful. I wanted the best surgeon I could find and I did. I wouldn’t have gone to anyone else! Pain free since Oct 2020.
I can't express enough how much I appreciated his help with my surgery and my full recovery he's very caring and always have time to listen to your concern.i will recommend him to my friends.
Dr. Yong is fantastic! I was referred to him for a large cyst on my ovary. He was very knowledgeable and very thorough with explanation, provided different treatment options, and always made time to answer my questions. My surgery was a success, and I felt very supported by Dr. Yong along the way! I had met with another specialist who rushed the appointment and made my condition sound like no big deal. Dr. Yong was thoughtful and very detailed on his explanations, and even checked in with me post-surgery. Overall, a very positive experience!
Dr Yong was a lifesaver for me. I have suffered with endometriosis for 8 years and have had 2 surgeries prior to meeting him. After my last surgery that he performed I feel the best I have in years!
Dr. Yong is an excellent surgeon, and also very kind, patient, and humble. I highly recommend this very competent and caring doctor.
Dr. Yong finally gave me a diagnosis (and treated my endo) after 20 years and a failed exploratory surgery. He is kind, thoughtful and willing to try out of the box treatments to help endo sufferers live the best life they can. Highly recommend this surgeon.
Finally got a diagnosis through this man. Introduced himself as "Paul". Very empathetic to our 3 miscarriages. On the way out of his office he asked us to come back in because he was thinking of a few more options for us. I've never had such kindness. He even made a house call wanting to follow up.
