as with any physician in the fairbanks (and probably anchorage) area, you have a decreased level of specialization because of the low population density. As far as Fairbanks opthamologists go (Dr. Z being one of only two) I've been pleased with him. However, I would encourage anyone who has a persistent or serious eye problem to seek a second opinion from someone in the states who specializes in you condition.

Easily the best in Fairbanks and probably the best in Alaska. Personable and extremely knowledgeable but very busy. Takes time to carefully explain everything. Cares about his patients and doing his best for them. Donates his time treating patients in 3rd world countries. No longer does routine eye exams - his schedule has become too busy and he is now totally dedicated to surgeries and pre and post op appointments.
