Not a good doctor, I wouldn’t recommend him. This doctor’s license is suspended since 2021 for unprofessional conduct with many patients, you can look up on Maryland and Virginia medical boards.

Dr. MacKoul did my laparoscopic hysterectomy, oopherectomy and laparoscopic checks for cancer treatment many years ago. I may not be here today if it weren't for his skills and decision-making. He answered every question I asked and explained everything to me. I do recall he was very straightforward, no-nonsense, no fluff in how he conveyed things, but I was not offended. I just took it as him being a serious person and focused on doing his job which he did very well. I did and continued to have symptoms of menopause from having my ovaries removed, but it is better than the alternative.

The main reason I went with CIGC was the minimal invasiveness of the DualPortGYN surgical technique, the expertise of the meticulous surgeons, and the volume of successful surgeries. Dr. Mackoul explained how the cardinal and uterosacral ligaments were not fully cut in this type of hysterectomy, which appealed to me as it translated to an easier recovery with decreased risk of prolapse. Removing or leaving ovaries was another decision I also appreciate having one miniscule scar way down low, imperceptible, and that my abdominal muscles were not cut. I was thrilled with the care I received from the team, and that surgery was in the ambulatory surgery center in New Jersey, which allowed for a 40 minute surgery with minimal time to get scheduled; it felt safer than going to a hospital for a 3 hour robotic operation. I have more comments on the CIGC site under "blog." My abdomen was still flat and I celebrated by buying a bikini and stayed at nice boutique hotel in NJ. Very happy! Ann

I stumbled on the CIGC website about a month before I was scheduled to have a fibroid embolization and called immediately for a consultation. The website is extremely helpful and full of information that answers most (if not all questions) you may have about their techniques and how they are different. Dr. Mackoul is a true pioneer in the field of gynecologic surgery and I'm so thankful I went ahead and scheduled my procedure with him. He explained to me that radiological interventions have many problems/complications and do not get to the root of the problem. Everything he said resonated with me and I knew that he was the doctor I could trust. My recovery was painless and I was back to work in 7 days!!! I also had some endometriosis that would not have been addressed had I gone through an embolization procedure. MRI imaging does not show the whole picture , but the mapping technique Dr. Mackoul uses does. I was unaware that 50% of women with fibroids have endometriosis present and it's standard operating procedure for the surgeons at CIGC to address that during surgery to avoid future problems. Thank you Dr. Mackoul!!!

I could not be more pleased with the entire experience. I recovered from my hysterectomy in a matter of days. Very little pain meds needed. Only a skilled surgeon can make your recovery time this easy. I highly recommend Dr. MacKoul and the entire surgical center staff. Everyone went above and beyond making me feel as comfortable as possible both before and after surgery.

Consulted with Dr. Mackoul in 2012 to remove 1 ovary due to a large cyst. He stated he would take a tissue sample during surgery to pathology to check if malignant or benign so he could decide if the other ovary should be removed or do more biopsies. Nurse called prior to surgery to confirm the oopherectomy on the right. When I arrived at the Holy Cross Hospital I was shocked when I was asked to give permission for a hysterectomy & declined. Dr. Mackoul was 2 hours late, then proceeded to lie & state we discussed hysterectomy, then left the room to ‘pretend’ call his RN & said she agreed she called me about a hysterectomy. I had family that had arrived from out of town to watch my kids, done all the pre-surgery tasks, was vulnerable due to my husband’s recent death & was in total shock & unnerved by what was happening and sadly went through with the hysterectomy. For him, it was an easier surgery to do the whole thing rather than a part & more $. Later I found out he had lost privileges at Washington Hospital Ctr due to his incompetence and substandard care. He now has his own surgery center (where regulations are lax) & a simple search shows he's had 14 lawsuits since 1991. Do your research!
