Ratings for Dr. John E. Ready
3.5
Dr. Ready replaced my hip 4 1/2 years ago. In our first and subsequent visits, he was arrogant and cold, but I didn't care as long as he did a good job. A week after my surgery, I developed a hematoma. It looked like a huge snake was crawling down my thigh. Last fall, I began experiencing pain and stiffness. I saw Dr. Ready. His fellow first examined me, but wouldn't say what was wrong until Dr. Ready appeared. Dr. Ready looked at my x-ray and said I had to get my hip replaced again. My ball and socket had loosened. I asked him how this could happen, and he said he didn't know. He told me it happens in 5% of all cases and that he had had no revisions for the last 1000 surgeries he did. I was in such a state of shock that I couldn't understand any of his explanations of what happened to my hip. He seemed like he didn't care at all. When I said "I'm not going to cry," he picked up a box of tissue and plunked it down in front of me. No words of kindness or reassurance. He seemed eager to get out of the room. His fellow was emotionally distant with awkward communication skills. I had my revision done by another surgeon who explained everything and was kind and caring. It's only been three weeks, but no hematoma. So far, so good
Will not take responsibility for problem he missed and "blew off" for years The most arrogant physician I have ever encountered
Great doctor and even better surgeon! Performed a a very successful hip operation on me without any complications whatsoever!
I had Slipped Capital Femoral Epiphysis pinned in both hips when I was 13. By age 59 both hips were shot. Children's Hospital recommended Dr. Ready as this was a tough job. Had to remove 3 long ancient pins from each hip without losing too much bone to do a "standard" implant. The first hip he spent almost 4 hours doing this in one surgery. Went home 2 days later and back on the bicycle and hiking 10 weeks out. Had the second hip done 9 months later (November 2015) and was home the day after surgery. No problems. Back cross country skiing late March 2016. In my opinion Dr. Ready was worth the wait.
Unfortunately surgery was unsuccessful. 2 years later still in pain. A call back would be nice..
People should not be so critical about a wait. The bottom line is the man is in high demand this comes with being one of the best in the field and unless you are more concerned with having to wait at a preliminary appointment over being treated by one of the best orthopedic surgeons around maybe he is not the surgeon for you. He just a anterior THR on my left hip 4/5/2013 and I will be needing my right done sometime in the near future ,I have absolutely no reservations of having him do this job as well, nor would I hesitate for one second to refer him to some one else.
As others have said, there is a very long wait time. I've had several appointments with him, and I would guess my average wait time was 3 hours. But at least we know what to expect -- bring an iPod, a book, Kindle, whatever, and it really isn't that bad. He excels in the important stuff - very knowledgeable, seems to be a great surgeon. My son had a very long incision, but the scar appears to be very clean and neat. Staff are pretty good about calling back to answer questions, and setting up appointments
Replaced my left hip (partial), after he told me he was doing a full replacement, went bad 15 months later, had to do a full replacement at another hospital, very long wait time, once walked out had been waiting 4 hours after appointment time.
He's simply the best. Very pleasant and comforting. Removed my bone tumor and I'm doing well with my dynamic hip screw.
Outstanding gentleman. Friendly P.A. and office. I was referred with a tumor and I am like new! Excellent...
