I feel SO lucky to have Dr. Anderson as my OB. Pregnant with our first, we were referred to see him however a few days before our first appointment, we found out that the baby had died and I needed a D&C. I called his office and was told he was on call. I was SO impressed with him and his resident (and everyone at St Paul's). The experience of losing our baby at 13 weeks was truly devastating and he showed an incredible amount of compassion. When I was in the OR, a few tears started to fall down my cheeks. I wasn't nervous just really sad at the loss of our first baby. Dr. Anderson just held my hand for 5 minutes until I was put under to reassure me. I can't tell you how much that little gesture made me feel. He was incredibly reassuring that he would ensure we were followed very closely for our next pregnancy, which he assured us would be soon. I felt so lucky to have him as my Dr and look forward to seeing him under better circumstances soon.

I recently had the good fortune of receiving care from Dr. Anderson at St. Paul's. I had an easy and wonderful birth but then my placenta would not come out. He and his team acted immediately to remove it and slow the bleeding (I had lost a lot of blood). As we were walking to the OR and they were preping me for the procedure he chatted with me, held my hand and put my mind at ease. I will never forget that! He really made a difference to me feeling totally cared for and trusting of the process. I am now home doing great with an adorable little baby I am madly in love with. I looked him up just now on Rate My MD b/c I am hoping to become his patient for subsequent pregnancies if the placental issue recurs.

Dr. Anderson was the third OB that I saw as I had two previous c-sections and was the only doctor that spoke to me intellectually regarding doing a V-BAC. He went over his concerns; mine and then we came to an agreement to try with caution. Happily it went perfectly! He was a bit quick in his visits, I felt, especially since I drove 1.5 hours to see him – but if I said please wait, I have a list of questions, he sat down and listened! I was his first surrogacy birth and he made us all feel involved and was very professional. I can’t say enough about his staff as they are the kindest and most helpful - never rude! I would refer and have, Dr. Anderson hands down! St. Paul’s hospital that he practices from is amazing too – the package could not be better!

Rob delivered both my kids. I'm a pretty critical person, and I must say, the service I received from him was outstanding, in my opinion. You do need to speak up if there are any questions you need answered. He is matter-of-fact about things. Some personalities might not click with that, but I did. I won't be having anymore kids, but if I did, I'd go back to him again.

From my experience I would not recommend this doctor to anyone. Showed no signs of empathy. If I showed signs of distress choose not to care and would rather get impatient. Poor listening skills. Poor notes or lack of reviewing them. Felt like everytime I walked into his office was our first meeting. Will not look out for patient's best interest, is money driven. I wonder why one would choose this profession when he has no respect for it or women. I've never crossed paths with someone so blatantly uncaring and self-serving.

My experience with Dr. Anderson was very positive. I went to him with a relatively minora problem, however it was pretty majora for me. With respect to his competence, Dr. Anderson did a fantastic job at solving my problem. He was a perfectionist, which is primarily what I look for in a surgeon. He was caring and delightfully eccentric.

Dr Anderson is the worst doctor I've ever had the misfortune of going to. I found him to have a very big ego which got in the way of him doctoring. I went to him because my husband and I had problems conceiving and felt he really didn't care about my desire to become a mother. I think if a woman comes to him pregnant and everything is going on course he really doesn't have much to do but follow her and there's no stress therefore he is pleasant. After all women have been having babies forever. If he has to do any thinking about a situation he couldn't be bothered. In my situation of wanting a baby and my worst fear coming true I felt like I had no one to turn to already and he pretty much told me on my last appointment to "do what you want" and left the room. So in my confusion I pick up the pieces, wonder why God has given me this misfortune and wonder if I had gone to a different doctor perhaps I would have been guided differently. He should be ashamed to call himself a doctor!

He was my OBGYN for my first child in 2006 and I found him to be perfect for my husband and I. Perhaps certain personalities dont click with him. None of the negative comments have related to his technical skills. Technically he was great and his personality worked well for us.

Went to him after 2 miscarriages. He was much better than the OBGYN's I saw previous. He ran tests etc., When I became pregnant for the 3rd time, he was great throughout my pregnancy. Always answered my questions & cared. Would definitely go to him again & recommend him.

I would recommend Dr. Anderson 100%. Have known this Doctor from his days as a Gyne Resident and have seen him with many, many patients ( I am an R.N). He is a VERY caring, professional and knowledgeable physician, and yes, chatty with a cheery disposition. Not a bad quality to have. That is why I chose to have him as my OB/Gyne when I was pregnant. I ended up having a bit of a stressfull labour with an emergency C-section and felt very confident in his abilities as my Doctor. Even during a very tense moment with the labour, he was very calm and reassuring to myself and my husband. The c-section went well and my surgical recovery was great. Will definately have Dr. Anderson as my OB in the future.

After a nightmare delivery with a GP for my first baby, I got a referral to Rob for my 2nd delivery. I totally clicked with him and found he was super knowledgable, funny and I enjoyed all my app'ts with him. I recommended him to all my friends, they all loved him and have recommended him to their friends. I knew I made a good choice, when by chance I met a nurse from St. Paul's maternity ward. She asked who I was seeing for the pregnancy. When I told her Rob Anderson, she said the nursing staff love him and when he is on, they are all at ease. I think if the staff at the hospital feel that way, he must be pretty good. I was sad to not have him for my third. I hope my current obgyn will be as good.

At my last appointment with Dr. Andersson I went in with a list. Even though we chit-chatted, he addressed everything on my list in a knowledgeable, down to earth kind of a way. He listened to everything I had to say and explained to me why these things were happening. I'm a fan because he is such a good doctor.

I second my predecessor's comments. He fills up the whole time with his speeches and stories, which he seems to think are more important than you are, so that there is no time for questions (though he does ask, though he does cut you off if you do ask!) Lots of ego on display, little responsiveness or (genuine) sensitivity. Very impatient. Surprisingly flirty for a male gyno, which is weird!! Doesn't stop this even if you indicate discomfort, actually gets worse! Also, I note that Anderson's fans here, quite often disdain and jeer at other's negative experience, which really isn't very complimentary of Anderson's practice. Though I have to say, that I asked for the referral because of the positive comments here. Now I know!

I thought he was full of himself and couldn't bothered with me or my questions. The might buck keeps this guy going. He just can't be bothered. Although, I have heard if you are a professional you will get good care from this guy. He is really over-bearing.

Dr. Anderson is fabulous! He's incredibly knowledgeable about his field and has an excellent bedside manner. He's kind, compassionate and has a great sense of humour -- something that is typically lacking in many specialists! I saw him for suspected endometriosis and I quickly felt totally confident under his care. I had no post-op problems and healed quickly; one year later you can barely see my scars. A wonderful doctor whom I wouldn't hesitate to recommend!

After many horrific experiences with GYNES I was told about Dr. Andersson by a friend and am I ever glad I saw him. First of all he was very professional and knowledgeable, but also kind. I had my first appointment at St.Pauls while he was on call and he went out of his way to accomodate my perfume allergy. I was so impressed that I did not have to defend my reaction...he just put me in a clean room and interviewed me there. He was also extremely professional in his tests and I trust his judgement, whereas before I was misdiagnosed, lied to and made to wait hours in severe pain. I had unneccessary procedures that made me sick and Dr. Andersson was left to mop up after the damage done by other OB/GYN's. He came through with flying colours. I am grateful to have found him, because I became fearful of further harm and he treated me with understanding and compassion. I simply cannot say enough positive things about this man who works so very hard and is so dedicated to his patients.

I was referred to Dr. Anderson after a nightmare of a pregnancy with twins (told I was having a miscarriage, scheduled D&C, etc). He put me completely at ease! He was very complimentary, very understanding, and very good about making me feel good about my pregnancy that had been so worrisome. I brought my husband to visit and he answered all of our questions - even the crazy stuff we picked up from friends and the Internet. He did an amazing job with my c-section (it's true, he's wicked with the scars - no staples!) On top of being an amazing doctor, he has the best staff! You can't ask for much more than that.

Dr Anderson was amazing through my pregnancy and birth of my son. It's interesting to read others comments......get a life......he's a super guy, educated and has a wonderful matter. I think that some people just have too much time and other things going on in their lives and want to blame someone else. I would HIGHLY recommend Dr. Anderson.

Dr. Anderson delivered both my babies and they were both C sections. I was so thankful to have him as my doctor as he was so knowledgable, kept me at ease as the first csection was an emergency. With both pregnancies he took me very early on in the pregnancy as I was in my late 30s. I have recommended him to alot of friends and will keep recommending him. He came to see me everyday in the hospital (St. Pauls) and always was available for questions. As for his office, well he is a very popular doctor and is very busy waiting never bothered me as his office was very relaxing. I was very happy.

I saw Dr. Anderson after my miscarriages and then through a very successful 2nd pregnancy. Yes, he was a little behind on his appointments but he was FABULOUS. I was lucky enough that he was on rounds when I ended up deliverying my son, he was exceptional. I don't recall him talking alot about himself or his children, but perhaps he did and I just wasn't interested. He was recommended to me by a L&D nurse at Children's Hospital and if I were to need the services of an ob/gyn again, he is the first doctor I would want!!!

I used Dr. Anderson for my first pregnancy. I did think that he was a very friendly guy and was chatty enough, however my main beef with him was a) that he was never on time and b) my appointments with him (probably because he was always behind schedule) always seemed rushed so I felt like I couldn't take up more of his time by asking questions. One time he was almost 2 hours late for an appointment. While I understand that another patient's labour/surgery could delay him at the hospital, you would think that a) he could tell his receptionist to phone his patients to let them know that he's been delayed and b) that he'd apologize for being late. That said, I did feel that he was very competent and considered using him for my second pregnancy. As far as complaints about him not recognizing people, I did run into him in Pottery Barn and he recognized me whereas I had the mental block of who he was!

I saw him with all 3 of my babies and he delivered 2 of them (on call did the last one) but he came in to see me as soon as he got to the hospital the next day. As with another lady on this post, I had a miscarriage before my second son and when I did get pregnant with my second, he took me on right from 1 month. He is an AMAZING doctor - he does care. The only reason I could see him being a jerk was to people who were rude or a jerk to him. I would recommend him to anyone... he is truly a gem.

When I saw Dr. Anderson, I had menopausal bleeding, and he tried to do a biospsy in his office - he couldn't get a good sample and so he threw the instruments on the tray and said, "we'll, just do a D&C". Having to go for surgery somewhat frightened me, but he did explain to me about D&C's, although very quickly. He told me the wait would be about a year and when I said, "a year?", he said, "well, that's your medical system for you." I really wasn't there to discuss the medical system. In my opinion he seemed quite knowledgable and I feel that he probably did a good job in the operating room, but I found his manner to be very flip. When I had to go back about this problem again, I chose another gynecologist.

wouldnt go to anyone else ! we have inside knowledge about who to go to (work in medical field) and he is the guy to see. When it comes to your baby's safe delivery you want someone who is skillful and decisive (especially if things are going off). One of the other comments above state he can be blunt but this is not even close to the truth- he was always pleasant with both our pregnancies - he will only be blunt with you if you are being stupid and placing your unborn child or yourself at risk (so i would take the above negative comments with a grain of salt!). Have recommended him to all our friends - and will go back to him if we decide to have another.

Yes, he talks a lot, but he also answers questions and addresses concerns. As a medical professional who has been his patient he is a good doctor. I've sent other medical professionals to him and they've also been happy. This says a lot, because we work with doctors every day and see all the good and bad ones out there. If he's late, it's usually because he's had to go to the hospital for an emergency. And most good doctors in large cities are professors as well as practitioners. This is especially true at a teaching hospital. That's how they keep their knowledge relevant for teaching.

Interesting opposite comments! I too saw this Dr when I had my misscarriage at St Paul's. I then saw him a few times in his office. He loves to talk about himself ALOT, and that's not why I'm there! It appears to me that if you are not "of interest" to him that he won't give you the proper attention...that everyone should get and deserves. I too had the feeling that he didn't listen to me, had a bad bedside manner (there were a couple of times he was soo blunt to me...even infront of a student who was also quite surprised - that I cried downstairs in the lobby on the way out), and knew that he certainly wouldn't remember me after I walked out...and that's after seeing him several times. He never remembered anything even if there were only a few days between visits. If one day I'm lucky to be blessed with being pregnant again, I would never ever ever choose to see this doctor again. The are many other doctors out that that are GOOD PEOPLE. He's a bad egg in my books.

Was really late, over-talked all my concerns, did not listen. Misjudged and misread everything due to lack of attention. Seemed to have very bad notes (" remind me what were we talking about about "), random, scatter-shot questions that made no sense and did not follow and if I didn't answer fast enough didn't seem to care, just went on to the next bizarre question. Nothing I said seemed to register. No eye contact. Don't think he'd recognize me 10 seconds after. Don't know why people rave about him, he totally wasted MY time. on his waiting list.

I saw him in the emergency some time ago, but was very impressed. He was history taking was great, as was his bedside manner. When others were trying to discharge me from the emergency room with no diagnosis, he was empathetic and lobbied for me to stay until my symptoms were diagnosed. Other friends have had him deliver their babies and while the general comment is that he talks a little too much about his own kids, they would still go back because they felt so well cared for. MY guess is that another rater on this system had a very one-off experience with him.

A very personable, verbally vivacious and verbose, self-consciously charming yet manipulative and deceitful person. Spends most of appointment telling stories, so that there is insufficient time to address issues. Evades technical questions. Pretends to go along with your wishes, but puts something entirely different on the consent form -- and when you catch this, gets angry and refuses to even look at you. And then, poof! Charm gone. He is a professor of surgery, not a medical guy (though he over-laps, presumably for revenue stream puposes), so every solution proposed will be some kind of evisceration of you. Very short attention span, will not show up until last minute, or at all (you likely be left to the untender mercies of the nurses and med students), unless you're presenting as an opportunity to perform a trophy surgery, in which case he will pull out all the stops for you -- which is why he has a few fans who think this is his standard behaviour. Be wary and don't be deceived.

Dr. Anderson is awesome. First of all he wants you to call him and all of the office staff by their first names. He loves his work, cares about his patients and staff, and believe me, it shows! Anytime I had a question he would go into great detail to answer it, which made me feel really at ease. He looked after me for my first pregnancy and I will be going back when I'm ready to have another. If you're looking for a great ob/gyn ask to be referred to Dr.R.B Anderson.
