I had a similar unpleasant experience...went for a check-up and cleaning. He acted like he didn't want to be there. Sat down and put his feet up on a table and said I had long-term gum disease. Too crass for my liking. Next dentist said my gums and teeth were very nice...no problems.

Dentistry seems to be something of a sideline for this guy. He's got his ranch and other things to think about and talk about while he works on your teeth. He wanted to know a lot of details about my personal life and what I didn't share he just make up for himself. So have a good explanation ready to go for anything he thinks is amiss with your teeth. The quality of his work was substandard but no charge for a redo. I had to draw the line at two though. The next dentist I saw was not impressed with his work.
