Solved my medication issue with regard to my osteoarthritis

August 19, 2018, Dr. Terry preformed amazing surgery on my badly broken right ankle at Campbell River Hospital. This surgeon is all over the place and he is in high demand. I was so lucky because the fracture occurred at Teakerne Arm in Desolation sound on August 18 around 7 pm. I was transported by Canada Coast Guard to Lund, then by amublane to Powell River, then by Ferry next day to Comox and finally by the third ambulance to Campbel River. I arrived there around 2:30 p.m. and by 3:15 ish Dr. Terry filled me with 1 steel plate and 10 screws. Now, 6 1/2 weeks later I'm almost ready to start physio. Dr. Terry was so pleasant, had a nice sense of humour and made me feel confident that things would end up OK. Thanks Dr. Terry, I'm so glad you were there when I needed you.

I cannot believe how fortunate we were to have a pediatric orthopedic surgeon in Kitimat when my daughter required surgery for a broken ankle. If he had not been here we would have been forced to fly to Vancouver for her surgery. She was home for recovery the same day. Dr Terry amazing with communication, availability and explaining to my daughter. We were able to communicate through text to keep him up to date; he also called us directly. We were very happy to be able to stay in our own area to get this specialized treatment.

I nearly lost my pinkie in a trailer loading accident before May long weekend '17. Dr Terry was the only surgeon available in NW BC that day...I went to Pr Rupert and was quickly seen by him. He performed a detailed and impressive surgery to put me back together and I am happy to report I still have the finger and it's healing/progressing well. Dr Terry had sent me to see Dr Halka for some follow up surgery (tendon reattach) in Prince George. I was very impressed by the care and attention I received from these 2 doctors, and all the amazing nurses I dealt with in Northern Health!

I would highly recommend Dr. Terry to any family whose child needs orthopaedic surgery. He excels in all areas; technical expertise, medical explanation, bedside manner, and follow up. Our story goes like this: Our 10 year old son fell off a swing from approximately 2 m in height. He put his arms down to break his fall. He broke radius and ulna in both arms - Colles’ fracture of radius and distal ulna fracture. Both fractures were extra-articular and all four bones were displaced. Dr. Terry performed closed reduction percutaneous pinning and used 3 inch long stainless pins – one for each bone. The surgery was completed under emergency. Our son was in the operating room for two hours which included prepping and anaesthesia as well as a 60 minute surgery. Post surgery Dr. Terry took time to explain the x-rays to us and answered all our questions. He has a gentle and kind bedside manner and was exceptionally patient. He was willing to repeat things as necessary. He took an interest in our entire family, asking if we had other children and contemplating how this injury may impact our family life. He asked us specifically to follow up and let him know how our son was recovering as ‘his passion is children’. Dr. Terry was amazing on follow up. I was able to email him to ask questions and report on our son’s progress. His response was almost instantaneous each time and he even phoned me to discuss. His approach, care and explanations instilled our confidence in him, as we (like most families) do not have reference of comparison for the situation we found ourselves in. I sought out our local hospital physiotherapist to ask questions about the splints we required for follow up care. Upon looking at the x-rays of the reduction, he exclaimed “Do you know how amazing Dr. Terry put your boy back together?!” Of course having no reference for comparison, I didn’t. Our physiotherapist indicated his precision was exemplary. Upon sharing this with Dr. Terry his words were “Well, my philosophy is to fix children the way I would want mine to be fixed”. We are so thrilled with Dr. Terry’s overall care that we are travelling 12 hours by vehicle to have him remove the pins and provide follow up. Bravo Dr. Terry…..10 gold stars!! ]

I have had a wonderful, ongoing experience with Dr. Terry. My 4 year old daughter had a monteggia arm break (broken ulna and dislocation of the radius) from an accident on a trampoline. He performed the procedure in the outpatient department. He explained everything to us and exactly what he was going to do and how he was going to do it. When he was finished casting her arm he gave me his personal cell number and email to be in touch as he was about to travel and he wanted follow up. I have been in contact with him and he has taken the time to look at her X-rays as soon as I call and give me his opinion and what our next steps were. I'm so thankful that he was there because if not, they would have flown us to Vancouver and he did a great job.

Dr. Terry has given my daughter excellent medical advice from age 18 months to 15 years of age. He is competent and ever so complete in his evaluations. I do not think my daughter would be in sports and advancing so well academically and socially in her teen years if he had not consistently given the ongoing medical advice and supports. Thank you.

Dr. Terry went way above and beyond the call of duty in assisting our young son (11) with a broken leg. His concern for his future development was very clear. When we compared his knowledge and competence with other doctors involved in this process, Dr. Terry is clearly an expert. He explains things very clearly...almost to a fault. My son understood all of what was being said too, and trusted this doctor.

Dr. Terry was very informative and compassionate when our 13yr old son broke his femur Christmas Eve. He explained our options clearly, and answered all our questions. He even spoke to my husband on the phone as he was unable to be at the hospital with my son and I, (we were tranported out of town). He has also spoken to us an number of times on the phone since my sons surgery to answer any problems we might have. When he had to go out of town he gave us his e-mail, so we could still ask questions. He has responded very quickly to my e-mails, which I didn't expect being the busy Dr. he is. We are very grateful to Dr. Terry for all his help and encouragement.

Dr. Terry told us that he would not be able to provide the clubfoot treatment required by our child. He recommended a US doctor and we went. Thanks for not proceeding like 3 other doctors and further crippling our child. Our recommended care was incredible. It is 4 years later and our child has not had to undergo surgeries thanks to Dr. Terry's advise.
