Dr. Rendon treated me for bladder cancer. He is a great urologist. He removed my bladder and prostate in January 2013. I elected to have a neobladder, which few urologists in Nova Scotia at the time would provide, preferring urostomies. I saw him every year for annual cystoscopies. Over time, he became increasingly compassionate. He is not usually a urologist to "hold your hand," in my experience, but he is an incredibly talented, knowledgeable, and dedicated urologist. This review is long overdue. My neobladder conked out after 12.5 years of service last year, which left me retaining urine that led to the formation of neobladder stones. He very kindly referred me to a urologist-colleague of his, starting up a practice at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital to save me driving time (I live in Port Hastings, Cape Breton). His colleague performed laser lithotripsy, and that has almost fully restored the functionality of my neobladder. If you want the best in field of urology, look no further than Dr. RENDON. He knows his stuff. I am fortunate to have been referred to him. He saved my life.
Dr. Rendon cared for me as he would for family. He took time at each of our meetings, pre-surgery, day of surgery, and post-surgery at six weeks to answer all questions, including those of my wife. He showed concern and genuine compassion for the emotional rollercoaster I was going through, and at each meeting, understood what I was going through. He is a talented and kind surgeon, and we are very fortunate to have his talent in Halifax!
We were referred to Dr. Rendon for prostate cancer and an appointment was arranged for a consultation. He reviewed my partner’s health history and then indicated he didn’t believe it was prostate cancer and was going to order a biopsy. The biopsy was undertaken quickly but performed by one of his colleagues. He did not contact us, nor did his colleague with the results. Also any message I left regarding problems with my partner’s Foley catheter were never returned. Fortunately, out family physician had also done a referral to an Oncologist who did follow up with us and took immediate action to have my partner hospitalized and start chemotherapy. By the way my partner does have prostate cancer. Based on this experience I would not recommend Dr. Rendon as a urologist. Perhaps he is a good surgeon but my impression was that he had no interest in my partner or his case. Judging from other comments, it seems he either takes an interest in the “case’ and that works out fine or, for whatever reason, he is not interested and disregards the case and the patient.
Dr. Rendon performed a TURP on me in 2018, in which he found a cancerous polyp in my bladder and removed, as well. He has followed up with, ever since. He has performed a cryoscopy each year after, to now, 2025. Every finding since has been negative. I want to thank him personally for his patience and skill. There is no better, in my opinion. He's the best.
I can't imagine having a better doctor. As one of the many assisting doctors told me after surgery - I am extremely lucky to still have use of my only functioning kidney... he doesn't know of any other doc that would have had the skills to complete the surgery successfully. I've had numerous surgeons throughout my lifetime - and Dr. Rendon is right up there with the very best. 👍
Dr. Rendon reviewed my cystoscopy and CT scans while I was waiting for a referral to Dr. Cox. Apparently there have been some complaints about his bedside manner but as a scared 31-year-old (30 at the time) I have nothing but good things to say about how he tackled my scans. I did not have cancer but had to move on for further testing for suspected IC (it was.) He was so incredibly patient where I was clearly upset and tearing up not having answers yet, and this very busy, smart cancer surgeon still took the time to sit with me and go through a follow-up plan for an issue that is completely out of his speciality. He was relatable and connected through a shared experience and said he was so thankful I didn't have cancer. Really nice guy and incredible talent as a practitioner.
Been my urologist and oncologist for 8 years and has been an amazing doctor and his staff are so supportive. Could not imagine a more dedicated doctor.
Being in treatment for metastatic prostate cancer I cannot praise enough the care I am receiving from Dr. Rendon and his nurse Liette. He is truly a lifesaver and how fortunate we are to have him in Nova Scotia. I just pray they do not work themselves too hard because it seems like they are very busy.
