Ratings for Dr. Lillian Abbott
I have been a patient of Dr. Abbott for 39 years. She is highly qualified. I trust her judgement 100% . I appreciate her serious approach to my well being and I also appreciate the fact that she has never been a "trendy" OBGYN!! She delivered three of my four children and every birth was a positive experience. Dr. Abbott is the BEST!
First off I can relate to the first review about her turning off the epidural and my friend had the same thing done to her! My son was stuck in the birth canal for two hours and I had no epidural. Dr. A just wants to get you in and out, she makes you feel stupid for asking questions and she over tests like crazy!!! The receptionist is the rudest most condescending person I have ever talked to as well. I moved to TX five months pregnant and she made me redo ALL my prenatal tests, even though I had wonderful care through my entire pregnancy. I had to move out of state for 15 months for my husbands job and they made me jump through hoops jet for a few extra months of birth control! Also don't forget regulations changed you no longer need a Pap test every year after 30, so they basically hold your birth control hostage so you pay for an apt. Overall I had a terrible experience I don't even want to have another baby because the experience was so awful.
As background, my first child was delivered by Dr. Abbot. I was induced & given an epidural & pushed for approximately 40 min. and delivered a 6lbs 9 oz baby. With my second delivery I was also induced and given an epidural. After about 30 min. of pushing, Dr. Abbott ordered my epidural turned off because it was her belief I was not able to feel the contractions enough to push effectively. Over the next two hours despite my numerous pleading requests to turn the epidural back on Dr. Abbot refused to do so. During this time period she also berated me by making such statements as "??You just wasted a good contraction"?? & "?if you would push this baby could have been here an hour agoâ"? & "??you can whine and plead all you want but we are not turning on your epidural."?? I finally delivered an 8 lbs 2 oz baby who was face up. The baby also had a large laceration on his head that required medication for the next week due being lodged in the birth canal for such an extended period of time.
Dr. Abbott was short and terse with me. I had the impression she just wanted to get me in and out as quickly as possible, and did not care about my hormonal imbalance. My endocrinologist was much more patient and helpful, and my periods are now regular. She is also condescending, and rolled her eyes at me. I would not recommend her to anyone.
Dr. Abbott has been my doctor for over 20 years. She is a knowledgeable professional who treated me to avoid miscarriage. She also delivered the first of my two daughters via emergency C-section. Also, I always brag to others about how efficient she and her staff are. They get you through quickly while maintaining a personal touch.
Dr. Abbott delivered me 28 years ago. My mother raved about her, so naturally, I used her when I had an ovarian cyst at 15. She's been my OB ever since. I love her. She's a bit old school in some ways, but I appreciate that because of her vast knowledge on your condition. Also, she's very understanding and caring. She delivered my daughter 4 years ago, and everything was wonderful. I can still remember how my baby's cord was wrapped so tightly around her neck, that every contraction actually stopped her heart. Dr. Abbott didn't freak me out, she rather asked if I still was against a C-section. Upon saying yes, she kindly told me what was going on with my daughter's heart and said that I had to push harder than I ever had before in order to avoid that. I did, and now I have a beautiful, healthy baby girl. There have been a few times when I've questioned her, but she's always been right. I also hope Dr. Abbott doesn't retire anytime soon!!!
I have had a VERY different experience with Dr. Abbott than the other reviewers. I've been her patient for about five years now and have always been happy with the service and care I've received. Dr. Abbott has a wealth of experience (about 36 years!) and is so easy to talk to about any issues I've ever had. After your exam, you just walk into her office and sit down to chat. I don't understand the user's comment about only receiving 10 months of birth control - that has never happened to me. I am now expecting a baby and wouldn't want to see anyone else BUT Dr. Abbott. When I had female issues several months ago, she was thorough with diagnosing the actual problem. I hope she doesn't retire anytime soon.
I saw this doctor for something like 3 years. I really didn't want to change but she would only give me birth control pills for a 10 month supply so I would have to see her 3 times in 2 years instead of twice. The final straw came when I was having really bad PMS symptoms and had heard Prozac or Zoloft would help if taken a week before my period. She told me maybe I need to see a phyciatrist then. Not helpful at all. Makes you feel small.........
The staff are not helpful unless you press them with questions or let them know you are upset. I went in for my yearly exam and they called me to let me know my tests came back okay. When I went in the next year, they told me I had the early stages of cervical cancer that showed from the previous year. No one informed me and I specifically asked and spoke to the nurse. They do not seem to care and they do not understand the personal nature of the medical feild they are in (neither does the doctor).
