Ugh. After 20 years of believing this was the best hospital with the best doctors in the Chicago area, I finally had to walk away. Attention to the patient's needs is aloof, uncaring, sloppy, and in at least one episode I had there recently, dangerous. A surgeon's prescribed drug put me in the emergency room with an ulcer, and 2 months later I've still not fully recovered.
It might be the teaching hospital environment, but there is an unfortunate "style" to the way so many of the doctors and nurses practice here. It's an air of distance, superiority and infallibility which, when combined with the exorbitant costs of treatment at NWM, make it downright unpleasant.
There are so many better, caring, and more down-to-earth places to get health care in Chicago, no one need subject themselves to NWM's imperious treatment.

Emergency room full of residents no doctor that had practiced more than a few years. Service very slow it took over eight hours, a lot of sitting and waiting. Incomplete instructions given by staff made us have to return three times.

Very expensive for outpatient services. Most of the MDs are polite and communicative but the office staff are rude and unhelpful.
