Rude staff at the oncology center. Immature, condescending, and very unsympathetic, especially towards children. My husband and I were here for his appointment (has bone marrow cancer) and were forced to take along our four children. Our children always receive wonderful comments such as, "calm", "polite" and "well-mannored". One lady was extremely rude to my son and another came and questioned them shortly after. Obviously, the "Ivy-league" status does not account for kindness or a heart. Definitely not family friendly. Get it together, Duke!!
I'm here right now and the Dr refuses to listen to me I'm on a lower dose than what I get at home. Refuses to control my nausea and pain. Dr Ross could care less I'd get more understanding talking to a wall. I thought it would be different at Duke but they are all the same. You have to fight for yourself. Said I don't get IV pain meds at home I say I'm in a place where my pain can be controlled and at home I can use other options like massage therapy and baths. Just another reason to be a Carolina fan. I hate Duke more than ever!!
My late husband was a patient at Duke Hospital and was discharged with a sub sternal abscess on September 20, 2011 by Dr. Carmillo Milano, cardiac surgeon. Dr. Milano discontinued the vancomycin/antibioitics on Oct 5th, 2011 with no follow up appointments scheduled. My late husband still had open leg wounds and sternum was not completely healed. I believe Dr. Milano abandoned my late husband and failed to provide the necessary medical care needed to treat the substernal abscess that lead him having Staphylococcus aureus and gangrenous in his legs. He also developed peritonitis and sepsis. Dr. Milano delayed treatment and diagnosis of his multiple infections lead to this untimely death.
If I could give this 0 stars I would. The Drs. need to get off their high horse and listen to the parents. I told them about a problem with my daughters incision including treating her 2x for a STAPH infection on it. That alone should have raised a flag to have it biopsied. Nope. When they finally figured out what it was, they treated her medically, yet what she really needed was SURGERY. My daughter (age 15) was then put on contact isolation. Child life only came by when they had "an extra volunteer", other than that she saw NOBODY. Then they bungled her case again which bought her 2 days on the ICU. Then they wanted to send her home to die. I got her transferred to a different hospital, and they DID do everything they were supposed to. She was getting better thanks to the folks at the other hospital, she really started to improve, but since the infection had gotten so bad, she ended up getting a massive pulmonary hemorrhage which ended up killing her. This place is lousy.
Surgeon was excellent it is the nursing staff that sucks....not a single one of them spoke english as a first language. They were unresponsive and overall a very poor team of nurses. Duke really should think about hiring people from the USA that speak english and have the ability to understand english. This was a horrible place
I had a pulmonary embolism in Oct.'07, and after being released from an ER at another hospital because "a panic attack" prognosis, was diagnosed at Duke with the P.E. and in a room within 2 hours of arriving. My stay was for about 12 days. This place was phenominal in all aspects of care, from the nursing staff, diagnostic support and the doctors were, to me, the cream of the crop. There were instances where attending physicians would have a small group of students of DukeUMC or interns come into the room for a chance to watch the doctor on his rounds to go over my chart and speak to me concerning my progress. I absolutely LOVED the opportunity of seeing young doctors being trained, and asked questions by the Physician right there in front of me, and listening to their responce and the doctors affirmation or correction. I told one of the docs "Thank you Dr. House" and got a biggest chuckle from all of them. I have never felt in better hands or better care at any other time in my life.
This hospital is the most disorganized hospital I have ever seen. The support staff seem angry all the time. There was no way it could have been personal.ex. tech stopped in the middle of blood draw to answer his cell.2- Nurse stopped in the middle of stick and left the needle hanging to watch Ellen. Had arteriogram. This is supposed to be checked every 15 mins for at least 2 hrs. Was not checked once. As someone else said, "i would not take my pet rat there.
