EMS took my dad to ER during early morning due to DEHYDRATION, TIA, went unresponsive at home, increase weakness. ER night shift in a seven hour period absolutely did noting to address dehydration and worsening heart rhythm and did not do a cardiac workup, just CT scan (the big money maker) and labs. I told the nurse to tell the doctor who would not come back to see us after his poor assessment that dad may have urinary infection to check UA and he is dehydrated and will need IV fluids in order to urinate. I BEGGED THEM SEVERAL TIMES TO UNCLAP THE FULL IV FLUIDS THAT WAS ESTABLISHED MY EMS HANGING WITH IV ACCESSED. Ya, unbelievable. . THEY ANORED ME. And no excuse because the ER had only a few patients. Staff was just sitting around and caught one nurse sleeping at nursing station. Five hours later the nurse returns and ask to cath him to obtain urine without even doing a bladder scan. I refused because of prostate issue and told them if they started the IV fluid when I asked them they would already had the urine. THEY STILL REFUSED TO START IV FLUID AND I BELIEVE IT WAS OUT OF SPITE. I ask them to discharge dad if they are not going to do anything. The nurse came with AMA paper which is leaving without doctors advisement. I refused to sign and go because insurance will not pay visit. So he stayed another 3 hours and no one came to check on us.And still dad has not urinated. Nurse and doctor was not addressing worsening EKG from normal sinus to PVC to trigemany due to dehydration. Dad was declining fast til the morning shift doctor and nurse came in and doctor dx dad with dehydration and TIA. Then morning shift doctor immediately ordered 2 bags of IV fluids then dad urinated and heart rhythm returned back to normal. I am a Christian. Satan lurks there in the ER at night--careless, cool hearted, ……. I felt hopeless in their care. When the morning shift came and began treatment dad I felt the heavenly spirit of angels in the form of dads morning nurse and doctor. I voiced my concerns to morning staff and they themselves are aware that night shift ER is of a different world and assured and I quote, "He will get care now." WOW!!!!!!! And he did. I am a retire RN and there was so many things that was wrong during night shift. I filed a detail complaint to ask them to pull EKG data and compare to the lack of medical orders/treatment to view worsening heart rhythm, low blood pressures, high blood sugar that was not rechecked or treated.... all signs of dehydration which was not treated the first 7 hours of admitted to ER. I received a letter that several higher managers, directors, administratives investigated, provided education to listen to family members when they know the patients better. Case closed. Bellefonte Hospital needs prayers along with our current healthcare as a Nation.
