Rate Verdun Hospital
Ratings for Verdun Hospital
I don’t even know where to start .... incompetent staff, zero information, zero care, zero humanity, no compassion for people in pain or discomfort. Not what the medical profession should be all about.their unwillingness to speak in English is the least of your worries .... avoid if you can.
When I knew my son was going to have a surgery at the Verdun Hospital, I came to RateMD and after reading all the comments I was so afraid of going ahead with it. After being re-assured by Doctors from the Children's hospital, my son underwent 4.5 hrs ear surgery. I must say my experience was really good. From the ladies at the hospital card, the admissions, nurses, doctors and hospital attention, I have no ONE complaint. They were all cordial, courteous and even though my french is not good, they were switching to English to make sure communication was effective. The hospital is old, and yes, I agree that should be better mainlined, however the Operating Rooms are really good, the waiting room is also clean and the personnel is very helpful. We had in total 4 nurses during our stay and ALL of them without a doubt were nice. I have nothing bad to say about the administration, the nurses or doctors.
A friend has been in this hospital awhile, he has no one to safeguard him. His wife, due to an accident, is mentally incompetent. I'm not close to this hospital. He has no one to safeguard him. I spoke to the nurse in charge of him, this evening, wanted to know who his attending was etc. He has been scheduled for a major operation. Her primary concern was if I could speak French!!!! She stated she didn't speak English....she was happy when I could accommodate her....well even in French she doesn't seem to be able to spell the names of the attending physicians...they don't seem to exist. Unless you need a dentist for a spinal infection!!! I'm bilingual & but when I'm ill, my mindset is in my mother tongue, I don't feel it's my duty to accommodate the staff of a hospital!! In every other province they go out of their way to accommodate patients of different languages...this hospital can't even do it it in the TWO official languages of this COUNTRY!!!'
The emergency unit is great. The geriatric floor is not. There is no on to report this to, no one who has answers. My grandmother, unable to feed herself, was left hungry and thirsty and in her own filth until we were able to get there in the evening. The person delivering the food, came back within a moment to pick up the food tray she was unable to access. We had to ask about 4 different people for food for her, the first few actually refused to help. We have called asking for an ombudsman and only get transffered to the regional office, where no one picks up. WHO DO WE SPEAK TO???
Overnight in Emergency after coming by ambulance, I was well treated and found doctors, nurses , and other staff who attended were competent, equipment seemed up to date and the whole department appeared to have been recently up=graded. Tests were done, and more are planned in the days to come. A very good place for care.
