This is a two part review of Markham hospital emergency department since I was there just several days apart for the same problem getting worse. Emergency visit to Markham Stouffville hospital for extreme pain. I arrived there at a good time in the morning so the line wasn't too long, but it grew by the time I left. I needed a wheelchair from the front of emergency because it was extremely painful to walk, I get into the exam room and they take my wheelchair. The exam is over and the doctor leaves, I'm now stuck in the room without a wheelchair and I can't walk. I get dressed and pull myself painfully to the doorway and ask the next person I see if they could find me a wheelchair, which they did. In the exam room the doctor who shall remain unnamed, mentions I needed an x-ray so now I'm eventually wheeling around looking for info on that because I'm in extreme pain and lost in the hospital. Finally I catch a nice staff member who wheeled me to the x-ray area. Staff in the x-ray area were very helpful. Back into the waiting room to wait for the x-ray results, still in extreme pain. So I arrived at emergency in lots of pain, left in much more pain and now I'm desperate for help and phoned Telehealth who suggestions I phone my family doctor which I did but they don't do house calls and I can't walk. Another option they suggested is go to another hospital but not Markham hospital. The kicker is according to Telehealth I should never have been sent home alone without some form of backup in place. Well I'm doing this review I'll mention that the Telehealth nurse spent a long time with me trying very hard to solve my situation and was shocked at some of the treatment I received at Markham hospital. There are some terrific staff at the hospital, a staff member who found me a wheelchair after I was stranded in the exam room, staff that took me to x-ray when I was confused, the nice male staff member that helped me get dressed in the hallway after everything was done. I know emergency is busy but please doctors take the time to completely look after each patient. Not bing bang and your out. Patients are not cars coming down an assembly line, they are humans in trouble. My second visit to emergency for the same problem several days later as my pain was worse turned out to be like night and day from my above experience. Dr Tara Byrne and staff were wonderful, compassionate, caring people. Honestly if I didn't know it was the same hospital, I'd swear I was not in Markham Stouffville, the change was that much. This examination was much more detailed, much more time taken to check the problem and Dr Byrne booked me an appointment with a specialist right then and there before I left the hospital, plus exact details of how I was to care for my condition. A family member was with me who were taking me home to their place so this time things were planned instead of the original emergency doctor who shall remain unnamed making no effort to ask what would happen to me living alone after leaving the hospital alone in extreme pain. Regarding my second emergency visit I'd like to thank Dr T Byrne again and a very gentle nurse Brittney for their caring compassion. Your experience at Markham Stouffville emergency is just pure luck which doctor is on duty that shift. I've been at the hospital for other emergencies and had Dr. Katherine Bingham who was also wonderful. If you get either of these two doctors you've won the emergency lottery!
I gave birth few weeks ago in This hospital, I was admitted in a room where there was blood spots on the floor and on the walls and it wasn't mine, after giving birth my nurse disappeared for an hour, I was losing a lot of blood, I kept calling and asking for a nurse and they sent one, I guess too late, I lost so much blood that I passed out, I could have died because of that, to finish a week after giving birth I saw on the news that a woman died in their maternity a day after she had her baby and 2 others got seriously ill because of streptococcus A infection, GAS.
Had ultra sound the technician was smug and apathetic... bad tole model for the intern fine woman working at the counter I’m a patient I haven’t been in the hospital and 28 years I don’t want to hear how overworked your depatment is we all work hard Overheard staff on my floor complaining about how overworked...stressed...and underpaid thx for sharing,... THE GOOD NEWS I also found the millenials employed by the hospital helpful, caring, making an effort👍👏👏👏👏 EMERGE👏👏👏👏👏thank you
