It is a warehouse where nurses sit at desks complaining about how overworked they are and make fun of patients and families. Drs. are not accessible and the level of neglect is heartbreaking. Medical unit B is particularly bad. Food is left too far away for patients to access and then a refusal to eat appears on their charts.
My mother needed palliative care. All of the staff from the cleaning staff, to the personal care workers, the nurses and the doctors where very kind, helpful and considerate. The staff made sure mom was comfortable and not in pain. they provided an extra cot and another comfortable chair in mom's room so that family members could be with her at all times. When my mom passed away the staff again were professional, caring and considerate. Thank you.
I wouldn’t recommended a dying rat to go to this place. Nurses r rude doctors continually doing circles around each other patients and family get told sumthing diff day to day no doctor can figure anything out with what’s going on with the patient patient is left in bed bedridden and nurses doesn’t offer to reposition the patient the patient needing to be cleaned and waiting over 2 hours laying in their mess I could go on and on and on the worst place I have ever been to no compassion whatsoever only there for their paycheck. Nurses even forgot to bring the patient their insulin. I know all this because I have stayed everynight with my family member
This review for Radiology Department only. Had to have several xrays over 3-4 months on lower extremities. Was told at check in to go "down the hall through double doors", where I'd be called. Followed the instructions and went through doors marked "Xray" and took a seat. Technician came in and asked if I had registered "next door". I told her I wasn't aware I had to register a second time and had followed instructions given by central registry. In front of other folks in the room I was told "obviously you didn't listen to the directions. Go next door and pick up the phone to check in." To that she disappeared. When I was finally seen I was told to change in the designated area. It was a Utility Closet! A filthy tiny room barely 3 x 4. A disgustingly dirty mat was taped to the floor. The floor looked as if it had never been washed, let alone swept, with dirt caked all around the perimeter. A large electrical machine had a warning sign not to touch it. On my first visit there was a used medicinal patch on the mat. On my 2nd visit, a month later, it was still there. Curiosity as to how often the room was cleaned led me to put a small piece of paper in an obvious spot to see if it was still there on my next visit, 6 weeks later. It was! along with the patch still on the mat. If you needed to use the room you have no choice but to stand on that mat while changing. Lord knows what germs it holds. Absolutely the dirtiest change room I have ever seen in or out of a hospital. As of 3 weeks ago, nothing had changed since my first visit in April.
Staff seems to always be simply “hanging out”. Wait hours to never be seen. Once my chart was completely misplaced and waited 10 hrs to never be seen. Unprofessional, chaos, no sense of organization. Would drive the 1hr to Halifax before driving 10min to Valley Regional.
Total knee replacement done last week. Nursing care in the IMC was exceptional. Moved to a semi private room the next day and care was non existent. One LPN came in and introduced herself by saying she was just back from days off and thought she had too much alcohol. No professionalism. The other patient in the room received decent care. It was as if I didn’t exist. They came and did vitals and gave me meds that were due, but never asked what my pain was like and if I needed anything. I was up 7 times through the night with my walker as I was diuresing. Not once did a nurse come into check on me even though they watched me from the nursing station. I was discharged that morning with a prescription and was told VON was set up for Friday for a dresssing change. By suppertime, VON had not shown so we called. They had never heard of me. It is now Saturday with no dressing change and VON is trying to get the paper work they require. Hopefully tomorrow. I am a retired nurse and this nursing care is unacceptable.
When you first step into the emergency room everything is labelled and well organized. But when we were put in a room, GROSS!! Bed sheet was not changed and there was blood and sand/dirt all over then bed. The washroom was also very very dirty and no one is friendly there.
I went to the valley regional a few months ago during a psychotic break and was told by the physician on site to just wait it out. I mentioned killing my self and disassociation and I was able to leave within a few minutes of them not taking the time to make sure I was already
