The staff in the ER are terrible I had a kidney stone with classic symptoms and was moaning in pain and was told to keep quiet or I wouldn’t be admitted So I gritted my teeth and finally when I promised to be quiet I was allowed into a room I began to vomit (which I never do ) and advised them something was very wrong and The nurse said nothing I was urinating very little and had bladder and severe kidney and abdominal pain and nausea Nothing was done The doctor didn’t even send me for an ultrasound He gave me an anti inflammatory injection which helped and asked if I could make it home There were nurses and a doctor there and only a couple of people in ER and they were standing around doing nothing much Never go there if you need help The staff were all rude and condescending My doctor was not pleased
In May 2017 I had a fall from a short distance and landed on my back/bum. I was taken to CCH in excruciating pain. In triage, a nurse told me to stop breathing so deeply for fear I'd pass out & fall again. Then I was told zoo go back into the waiting room. I told her I could not. Reluctantly she let me stay in the exam room. Hours passed. No one came in to check on me. My husband was with me, and after hearing me sobbing in pain for hours, he went to the nurses desk twice to see when a Dr. could see me. Still no help. Eventually my husband had to leave, but made sure our daughter could come stay with me before he left so I wouldn't be alone. Hours later, a short Dr.s exam followed by an X-ray . Laying on the X-ray table,I told the lovely woman she would have to position me, by then I couldn't move. She was an angel, so patient and kind. Then I heard the news; the diagnosis was a broken back. I was admitted, and spent over a week in the hospital. The entire staff of floor 1 was absolutely wonderful & could not have been nicer. Overall, despite the horrible treatment in the ER, St. Stephen is lucky to have such a onderful facility. Maybe a new staff in the ER might help. Don't breathe deeply when in terrible pain or you'll annoy a particular nurse. My low service rating reflects her, NOT anyone else. Everyone on floor 1 would get 12 solid gold stars!
Not a very good place if you are having a mental health emergency. I have seen mental hospitals (in Ontario) that look much better and have better-trained and far more compassionate staff. The doctor on duty was nice, though. Overall, I would not recommend this hospital unless you really have no other choice. I did not have a choice as it was the closest one to our motel and we were from out-of-town.
Poor service, long waiting periods and very few GOOD doctors. Need a total staff changeover, familiarity with the patients is not always a good thing. Not a clean facility at all, some doctors and staff are downright rude. I was there and waited about 8 hrs. (I'm borderline diabetic) and had asked for a glass of juice, the nurse in charge actually snapped that I should know better to bring my own snacks, told me they didn't supply extra foods! Who knew I would be there that long? I could have been to St. John and back at home resting. Not a good place to be at all.
