Everybody knows that if you want medical care, go to Oromocto. This hospital is notoriously bad; it's understaffed, overworked, and the staff are often rude or else completely indifferent. Besides some of the horror stories I've heard, I went in once after falling on my sacrum and suspected a fracture (this was the second time I'd injured it so I knew I was in for months of pain). After waiting five hours without seeing a doctor and getting empty promises about being seen promptly, I just left. The only time I've seen someone get prompt service is when I witnessed a patient get discharged, return about half an hour later, and then they collapsed in triage. That's about the only way they're going to give you reasonable service.
My last experience to the ER I registered, waited in the almost empty waiting room for 4 hours, then moved to a private waiting room for another 2 hours without seeing a doctor. After the doc came in, I waited another 6 hours before I was admitted. Total of 12 hour wait time
They love to misdiagnose people and send them home!!! My boyfriend has had bowel issues for years and they call him a "mystery case" and I have clear ovarian issues and they prescribed me a bunch of meds and said nothing was wrong with me? It increased my pains and I'm waiting to go to Quebec to get checked. :)
If you're lucky enough to actually get a room after being admitted, you'll be pretty well taken care of. Getting admitted and stuck in the ER? You might as well leave because you will be neglected. It is not the staff's fault - they are understaffed and overworked. They are forgetful due to the huge amount of people they need to care for. I went 6 hours without being checked on in emerg after almost dying from complications with the flu. I wasn't even given a pillow and all they had for me to sit in was a reclining chair (hard as a rock) and then a stretcher. I was supposed to be on isolation as well, but I had an old senile woman wandering into my room constantly and the bathroom wasn't isolated to only me at all. I had been admitted before a year ago and was supposed to be in isolation as well, but they left my door wide open (I was in the stroke unit, only bed they could find for me) and I had a 6'5" old man (he had lost his mind) come into my room in the night and start reading a magazine next to me. I had to call the nurses on the buzzer and they laughed awkwardly when I said "There's a man in my room, I think he's lost." Had I been sick with something more serious, he could've spread my illness to that entire floor of old people, which would've killed them all. But you know what? At least then they'd have some extra beds.
I have only been to the ER once. My experience... I arrived at the reception and waited to be registered but there was nobody there. After several minutes I saw another patient and asked where the staff was ─ he told me they were in the waiting area watching the hockey playoffs (Montreal was playing). The clerk continued to watch the game until it was over. Doesn't ER mean Emergency Room? How can they call it an emergency room when there is no one there to serve?
Staff is terrible, facilities worse and SEVERELY understaffed. I have waited almost 7 hours with a skull fracture, and waited MONTHS for urgent ultrasound of the breast for cancer...followed up with the central scheduling three times a week to have them tell me every time I was isn't their system and they couldn't find me even with my medicare number and then hanging up on me. I would drive to St John or Oromocto before ever willingly going to this hospital again. Gross neglect bordering on criminal. TERRIBLE administrative staff if I had not called repeatedly I would have never gotten my ultrasound for which I am now waiting surgery. I wonder how many patients the incompetence and administrative greed of Horizon Health has killed. Do yourself a favour and get the care you deserve and stay the H*LL away from this dump of an institution.
This is the little shop of horrors. The ER is staffed by people who don't give a damned. Triage is a joke and the ER Doctors are very limited in their knowledge of chronic conditions. They treat you like a number and bounce you out of their as soon as possible. This is a terrible facility that is poorly managed. I would sooner be treated by a veterinarian than any of their quacks!
