I agree with the comments below and will add that surgery was performed in me in my bed and charted up as happening in surgery when my dad walked in halfway thru me screaming for my life with one registrar and one doctor sharpening a lung drain hose and trying for the world to shove that thru my chest without enough anaesthetic and while I had 5 broken ribs a snapped neck and broken collar bone. They then left the drain on full suction attached directly to the panel behind me for the whole weekend. I complained constantly of the pain it was causing and they just turned up the ketamine until I was tripping so hard I was hallucinating and completely paranoid. I was ready to pick up the king drain and walk out with all hose injuries and find another hospital and I. Fact I called about but no one would either believe my story or take me in. I was totally traumatised by the experience and I’m waiting for enough people to come forward before I join a class action against the place . Makes me physically sick to remember the lack of power I felt there, afraid for my health, afraid of the nurses and doctors. Horricifc
I recently had the unfortunate experience of being transferred to Canberra Hospital. The care (or lack of) I received during my stay is an absolute inditement on our health care system. Notes were not kept accurately, nursing staff tried to give me double doses of my medication on a number of occasions. I was completely bed ridden on full spinal precautions and would often have to wait 30-45 minutes after pressing the call button. The medical staff would not take the time to explain parts of the condition. The facilities are incredibly tired and run down and the standard of cleaning by the company employed to clean a HOSPITAL was atrocious including in shared bathrooms. It is appalling how far standards have fallen in care and cleanliness in a health system that was the envy of the rest of the world! All I kept being told was that they are a major tertiary hospital as both a reason why I should not complain and the reason why they were their radiology etc was too busy to fit in my necessary scans. No one was prepared to take responsibility for the errors made or the lack of care. If I ever have the misfortune to be injured or ill again I will be categorically refusing to be taken to this hospital.
