Terrible hospital. No follow up on complaints as a matter of fact. The nurse managers say all that will happen is basically a slap on the wrist from the patient advocates. So you're more than welcome to complain, which I did. They were very correct nothing did happen. I was asked to go somewhere else for my care. I will as long as there is breathe in my body continue to be a patient advocate. No patient deserves to be treated the way this hospital treats them. I am ashamed to say I am also a health care provider, but I have never treated my patients this way.

I thank my lucky stars that I landed at St Mary's emergency room during a medical emergency. Within two minutes they had me on the table and already working on me. The doctor and nursing care at St. Mary's is wonderful. They are truly angels of compassionate care. The nurses went beyond the call of duty in explaining the medicines and procedures. The facility is immaculately clean. I received miraculous care at St. Mary's, and I give it my highest recommendation.

I was treated for pneumonia a couple months ago and they saved my life. Mostly I was treated very well and absolutely have no complaints about the service. I haven't gotten my bill yet so I can't rate cost

Had surgery here in 2009 and nurses couldn't get pain meds to me on time. Had surgery here in June of 2015 and at least 3 of the nurses had attitude problems. Pre-op nurses were great but, in post op when dilaudid was not controling my pain and breaking me out in hives, which had me clawing myself raw, and I was steadily complaining about the level of my pain, apparently, one of the nurses got tired of hearing me complain and told me that I should just expect a pain level of 8 or 9 and to just get used to it. They put me in a room without lowering my pain level. I was pacing the floor in pain and still complaining and moving my arms around as I was complaining. A nurse come in to put some antibiotics in my IV and said I tried to slap her and wanted to know if I wanted the antibiotics and should she call security. I told her I didn't care about antibiotics at the moment and she should call anyone she wanted so that I could complain to them also. They sent up 3 men from security who tried to placate me with how it took time to get orders from the doctor. I told them I was in too much pain to care about any of that and they went on their way once the nurse supervisor came in. I started complaining about the pain at 3:30pm in recovery and they didn't get my pain under control until 7:30pm. So for 4 hours I was in extreme pain and they wonder why I was such a problem. I figure the nurses and the doctor are to blame. They finally got me a morphine pump and one of the nurses came in and asked me if I was watching the clock and I said of course I am until my pain is under control. Is it really necessary to be that hateful to someone who's in pain? When I finally saw the doctor the next day, he wanted to send me home on dilaudid! Did no one write up how I was reacting to it? Did he bother to read the chart if it was written up? There's just no excuse. Even after having been on morphine all night that had finally relieved my pain, I had to argue with the doctor to be sent home with morphine. And let's not even talk about all the other suppressant drugs they were giving me on top of the pain meds such as muscle relaxers, benadryl and klonopin and wonder why my throat kept closing up and shutting my oxygen off that night. Am not happy at all with the way I was treated here.

This rating is only regarding the outrageous cost of MRI's at St. Mary's. I see no rating for costs. After having stupidly ignored the pricing I saw online for MRI’s in the metro area and seeing the astronomical amount St. Mary’s hospital charges for an MRI compared to Paredes and a number of other imaging centers, I took the financial risk and got the MRI in November of 2014 at St. Mary’s. I used the reasons that they have performed all my MRI’s since 2009 and their head-nurse, Robin Porter, is entirely patient-centered. I was a member of a group plan within a school system, and my insurance changed for 2014 so that I became responsible for 20% coinsurance (in addition to a co-pay) for MRI’s and other imaging procedures. St. Mary’s Hospital charged my insurance company, Anthem Healthkeepers POS, $5,896.29 and me $889.24. After having reviewed the costs of eleven facilities in the metro area, Bon Secours St. Francis, Bon Secours St. Mary’s, and Bon Secours Memorial Regional hospitals charged far more than the other facilities within a twenty-mile radius of my address. Save yourself a great deal of money and do research on the costs of procedures performed at medical facilities and act accordingly. Insurance companies provide this information in your online accounts where you can view the cost and quality difference for procedures in your area.

Had knee and shoulder replacement surgery here and during both visits the service was great. The nurses couldn't have been nicer. The food is another thing. Don't know who has the contract but it sure could be a great deal better.

Don't let the "sisters" fool you; they are sharks. Everything is about money; didn't receive respectful care from ANYONE at this facility. The bill though is waiting for you when you get home. Food is better in prison, I suspect. Nursing staff must be from the bottom of the barrel.
