After three hour wait only urine test sent my daughter home without bloodwork. Telehealth said she should see a doctor. Maybe it's because she's an anglophone and doesn't speak French in this two tiered town known as Canada's capital

Horrible, utterly horrible service. Blatant disregard for comfort and disregard for what matters to the patient. I was approached by no less than 11 different doctors who asked the EXACT SAME QUESTIONS every time (obviously there's little no communication between doctors)
I was brought meals to my room which I couldnt/ wasn't allowed to eat. I have over 48 hours with absolutely ZERO food and only to cups of water (aside from the disgusting cocktails they forced me consume)
I was switched rooms all of a sudden and was given the shit treatment after that!! Started by not transferring my tv to my new room so whomever took over my first room now enjoys free tv. The new bed was soaking wet, the sheets were dirty and stained and ACTUALLY had dry blood still very visible in chunks.
I waited 2 days for 1 answer and was still left with unanswered questions. I PERSONALLY WILL NEVER EVER RETURN TO THE GENERAL

I recently had emergency gall bladder surgery at the General. Spent almost 2 months in hospital due to complications of gallstones that I had had. Nurses were fantastic! Surgeons were fantastic. Explained everything, came every day to check on me. Very, Very clean. Had to send cleaning lady away one day as she was cleaning while I was eating and it was making me ill with the smell of chemicals. Also had my daughter there by C-section. Most wonderful experience of my life! Great OB nurses who taught me lots. Service gets a 4 rating only because of 1 horrible nurse in OB and 1 horrible nurse in emergency for gall bladder post-op return due to extreme nausea. My favorite hospital in Ottawa.

I had to deliver my baby at the General hospital. Disgusting hospital. Unhealthy! Full garbage
Staff arrive and leave with their work outfit: thanks forsharing the germs guys! My mother who works in European hospital was almost crying to see this durty place where there is no private room. Horrible experience.

The nursing and medical staff are wonderful for the most part. Generally very understanding and helpful. The residents are very good too. New emergency room facilities are much better now -- more waiting areas, cleaner, more comfortable. Overall an excellent hospital.

RUN AWAY. It's a teaching hospital and minions and clones are everywhere. If you have the misfortune to land there, demand NO STUDENTS. Otherwise your doctors visit is just a class for others. In my many visits over the years the Civic is the better campus, but they both are mostly useless. Oh and did I mention they killed my Father by administering a drug that was blatantly clear that he was allergic to not to mention that we reminded them numerous times before we left him for the night. He was dead by 5am.

I've had many misdiagnosis at the ER here and so have many of my friends. Get a second opinion on anything they say! They will miss things from broken bones to concussions.

RECENTLY BROUGHT MY ADULT SON TO THE EMERGENCY DEPT AT THE GENERAL FOR A FRACTURED ARM. STAFF AT FRONT DESK INCREDIBLY RUDE IT WAS RATHER SHOCKING ACTUALLY. THEY REALLY MADE YOU FEEL LIKE YOU HAD NO RIGHT TO "BOTHER" THEM. THE STAFF BOTH FRONT DESK AND NURSES WERE GOSSIPING SO LOUD THAT WE COULD HERE THEM AT TIMES. NOT SURE WHO THE MANAGER IS BUT THEY ARE NOT RESPECTED I CAN TELL YOU THAT. DR WHO SAW MY SON WAS VERY GOOD HOWEVER WE WERE VERY UNCOMFORTABLE FOR A LOT OF THE TIME.

Was greeted at Emergency by informing us that is was a 4hour wait - did we want to wait? Bad first impression. I agree that the waiting is very modern but they don't use it. They then send you to these tiny rooms with old chairs that give you the feeling that the room is filthy. I didn't feel that the nurses had any compassion for the sick people in the unit. While the doctor was full of energy she was not willing to listen to the patient and continually interrupted. I got the impression that they keep you around for the 4hrs which is probably a target. As long as they reach their targets they don't care whether the patient has received good compassionate care. What happened to the Ottawa Hospital's "world Class" care!!

This hospital has a great waiting room, but they don't use it... instead they stick you in this tiny box with chairs from the 70s with like 25 other coughing people that are wihin 10 feet of your face as if to spread disease on purpose... The Staff inst as rude and horrible as Civic but aren't very friendly either. The Doctors on the other hand are far nicer and likely to help you out than Civic.
