Dr. Sekhar is a rare breed. Compassionate, kind, and a wonderful caring bedside manner as well as the skills that make him world famous. I have had two surgeries with this amazing man and doctor. If I have to do it again, it will be with the utmost confidence in Dr. Sekhar and his team.
After being informed by another top notch neurosurgeon that my large and complex petroclival meningioma causing brainstem compression was inoperable and that I likely had 5 years, I found Dr. Sekhar. This man is very honest, extremely thorough and amazingly talented. He explained to my extended family and myself the possibility of extreme complications should he perform surgery on me. He said he was capable of doing the surgery but there were definite risks. He spent nearly 2 months running me through a battery of tests to get a baseline on all my bodily functions. On March 4, 2008 I had a 12 hour brain surgery. Yes I did/do have complications that will forever be with me but even now those issues continue to improve. Best of all it has been nearly 7 years and I am enjoying LIFE. Because for some unknown reason my brain continues to grow more tumors (I have 5 at this time) Dr. Sekhar has performed two more surgeries on me, one a 6 hour and one another 12 hour surgery. Neither of these were as complicated as the first and I had no lasting complications from them. Dr. Sekhar is a life saver in my book and I hope he never retires because I do not think God has made a replacement for him yet. Thank you Dr. Sekhar for saving my life.
Dr. Sekhar's skill as a surgeon saved me from a life threatening vascular brain tumor on my brain stem. His compassionate care is equal to his unparalleled talent as a brain surgeon. I believe I am here today to raise my lovely daughters (who were 4 years, 2 years, and newborn at the time of my neurosurgery because he treated me as a patient and was the answer to my many prayers for healing.
My son begins college tomorrow because in 1986, Dr Sekhar removed a malignant paraganglioma from my fiancé, when we were told in Florida that it was inoperable and that she was terminal. God bless Dr. Sekhar. Thank you for giving Heidi and I our life. Dr. Sekhar is a hero. You will be blessed to have him as your surgeon.
This man is truely a genius. After a 7 hour surgery at Harborview hospital in Seattle, on 10-14-2005 he sucessfully removed an avm from my brain. I am here today alive & healthy only because of him. He was truely most caring & informative durning all my visits to him leading up to the actual surgery. He is the best! God bless him.
Doctor Laligam Sekhar saved my life on March 25th, 1991. At Presbyterian University Hospital, in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania, he removed a 4 inch basal intracranial meniongioma. I was diagnosed in October 1990, in Toronto, after having suffered a grand mal seizure. The tumor had effected the brain stem, the pons and cerebellum. After two unsucsesful attempt, I was sent to the Center for Cranial Based Surgery, in Pittsburgh. Doctor Shandraneth Sen, Dr Sekhar's "protoge" performed the first 12 hour operation; Doctor Sekhar did the second one, where the tumor was actually resected. I owe my life to him. God bless him. - James Papastamos
