Biography

Kristi Maas, M.D., M.E., FACOG, is double board certified in obstetrics and gynecology as well as reproductive endocrinology and infertility. Dr. Maas received her Bachelor of Science with honors in biomedical engineering, her master’s in engineering, and her Medical Doctorate from the University of Utah. She completed residency in obstetrics and gynecology at Tufts University’s Maine Medical Center and her fellowship in reproductive endocrinology and infertility at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, a teaching hospital of Harvard Medical School, and at Boston IVF in Boston. Dr. Maas is involved in a number of professional societies including: American Society for Reproductive Medicine American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopists American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists San Diego Medical Society Society of Reproductive Endocrinology Society of Robotic Surgery. Dr. Maas provides comprehensive care through the evaluation of endocrine disorders, infertility assessments and treatments, and surgical management of specific conditions that affect fertility. Her areas of interest include polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), egg freezing/fertility preservation, recurrent pregnancy loss, and outcomes for treatment among single women and/or women in same sex relationships. The latter is of interest to Dr. Maas because data from infertile couples is often utilized to counsel single women or those in same sex relationships regarding their chances of success, but it is not appropriate to directly extrapolate this data to a different patient population that is presumably fertile. Dr. Maas’s background in engineering gives her a unique perspective regarding patient testing and treatment. She is meticulous and plans the details of her patients’ treatment, working to create plans for anticipated and unanticipated outcomes. Dr. Maas feels her role is that of a patient educator and advocate. She strives to teach her patients about their own fertility and their personal response to their treatment, and makes recommendations based upon scientific data. She collaborates with patients to choose the right treatment and understands there is not a single universal treatment plan for all patients. Dr. Maas feels that her honesty and commitment to patient education help her provide the best treatment for her patients. Dr. Maas enjoys caring for and connecting with couples and individuals on their family building journey. She cherishes each unique relationship she creates during a time that is undoubtedly stressful, sad, hopeful, scary and wonderful for patients Dr. Maas also works with patients so they will understand that it is normal and valuable to express these feelings throughout their fertility journey.
