Ratings for Dr. Kira D. Stein
I have been going to Dr. Stein for about 10 years. I went in with severe depression, and she worked with me to get the right meds in order to get my depression under control. She is very professional, yet very compassionate. She has always been there when I needed her. Her staff is friendly and very responsive to emails and voicemail messages. I would highly recommend Dr. Stein if you are in need of a psychiatrist.
My GP suggested that I talk to a psychiatrist, so I did some research and decided to give Dr. Stein a try. It has been a very rewarding experience. The office ambience is very professional. Appointments are scheduled with patient privacy concerns factored in. Dr. Stein and her staff are very computer saavy and I like the fact that I get appointment reminders via text message and meds ordered/refilled for me while I am at the medical office. Dr. Stein's office is bright and cheerful. I love her white leather couch that seems very welcoming. Dr. Stein was able to provide me with an accurate diagnosis on my first visit. I continue to see her every 3 months and actually look forward to our follow-up appointments. She is honest, trustworthy and a gifted professional.
I went to Dr. Stein specifically because I wanted to try TMS. I needed a quick fix that would make all my symptoms go away. Much to my surprise, she suggested we try psychotherapy and tweaking my medication instead (a much less costly route to take). We eventually did turn to TMS once we exhausted all other options, but I'm happy we did things in that order. Mental health used to be an uncomfortable subject for me as I know it can be for many people that suffer from any such diagnosis. She helped me to accept my illness as just that, an illness, not something to be ashamed of. No longer being in denial about the severity of my disorder allowed me to have a better understanding of how to manage it and live the best life possible.
Dr. Stein has helped me tremendously to adjust my medications so that they work for me as a safety net. She has also encouraged me to keep up with the other work that I do to manage my depression/anxiety like yoga and a 12 step program. She's very knowledgeable and orders my prescriptions for me immediately. I never have to call the pharmacy. Great support staff too. She's not cheap but she's a fantastic Dr. who really knows her stuff and is caring and non-judgemental.
I've worked with Dr. Stein for 2+ years and have nothing but positive things to say. She always listens to what I say, remembers what I have said in the past, and never treats me like just "another patient." She has created an innovate treatment plan for me that includes not just meds but also cognitive and holistic therapies. She is firm when it comes to my medications but always listens to what I want too. Her plan has allowed me to function to my full potential without being overmedicated. In addition, the staff in Dr. Stein's office (Laura and Shanay) are extremely kind and helpful. Anytime I have questions about my insurance or appointments, they call me back right away. They always contact my insurance or pharmacy immediately to make sure my prescriptions go through and I pay as little as possible. The office itself is comfortable and relaxing, particularly Dr. Stein's office. The room allows for total privacy and me to open up in a way I usually cannot to other people.
This doctor no longer takes any kind of insurance. I called today and the girl that answered the phone told me it's $600 for the initial consultation and that's 1.5 hours long and every session after that is $200 for 30 minutes. Never come across a doctor that didn't accept insurance before.
I have been going to Dr Stein for 10 years. Being a nurse, I am cautious about placing my trust in a random doctor. Dr Stein understands how long term depression can deteriorate a persons ability to function. She is a genius in her knowledge of the action of medications. For years I used my internist for help with chronic depression and realized he "tried" drugs to see what worked without the pharmacological knowledge necessary for treating anxiety and depression. I have never felt that she questioned my "feelings" as being real, which is very important to me in trusting a psychiatrist. My biggest fear: what I would do without her?
Dr. Stein and her staff have changed my life. She hung in with me through some pretty dark days, and has always been available when I needed her. Together, we found the right combo of medicine and nutritional supplements to bring me back to normal.
