Thanks much for your review. You hadn't healed in your earlier care because no one had offloaded your ulcer. Dressing changes three times per week and antibiotics do not, by themselves, heal wounds, as you've demonstrated. We incorporated offloading and got your ulcer closed, but it took longer than normal because of circulatory complications and venous insufficiency on both legs, and the issues with Charcot neuroarthropathy on the opposite limb. Long term we'll likely need to do an offloading surgery to keep the ulcer from returning. Yours is a complicated case that will require ongoing attention, but you're markedly improved on both limbs. The ulcer is closed, the Charcot is nearly resolved, and you're on right track overall. I'm very pleased you're happy. Thanks for taking the time to write a nice review. SAS

I took my 11 year old to see him for 2 ingrown toe nails. He was patient, very good with kids and the whole procedure was so easy that my son even said how great of a doctor he is. I was very impressed overall and will definitely recommend him to friends and family in need of a podiatrist.

Thanks so much for taking the time to write a review. It's often difficult to come into a medical office for a procedure like this, not knowing what to expect. This is especially true for children. I'm very pleased your son found the procedure easy and less uncomfortable than he anticipated. I appreciate your taking the time to provide feedback of your experience. SAS

After nine months of hospital visits and IV treatments for a foot ulcer due to diabetes and charcot syndrome there was no improvement. I was told of Dr. Schumacher and how he specialized in foot ulcers. On my first visit I was told about off loading the wound and how a contact cast could heal the wound in 8 weeks. Eight weeks, I had just gone through NINE MONTHS to no avail. I was sceptible but since I was looking at eventually losing my foot due to this ulcer and decided to give the cast a go. In SEVEN yes SEVEN weeks my foot was healed. Dr. Schumacher knows what he is talking about. He educates you, has a great bedside manner, and a sense of humour. His staff are friendlyand carring. I carry his cards in my wallet and recommend him to every person I hear has foot problems. His procedures are not covered by medical (the goverment's fault) but what price do you put on a foot?

Thank you for your kind comments. Statistics show that 90% of diabetic foot ulcers heal within 6-8 weeks when wounds are debrided and aggressively offloaded, particularly with total contact casting. Unfortunately, the government doesn't pay for offloading, and few practitioners covered by MSP perform debridement. The day I write this we had three patients on IV antibiotics sent for debridement and offloading--one from Royal Columbian Hospital, another from Peace Arch Hospital, the third from the Jimmy Pattison Centre. The health care workers in these institutions know this needs to be done, because if it's not done, less than a third of ulcers will ever heal. Yet the BC government won't pay for this service. Instead, they pay for what doesn't work--endless dressing changes and antibiotics, even when there is no infection. I'm so pleased you've healed. Saving limbs from amputation is the most rewarding part of my job. Thank you for the positive feedback. SAS

Thank you for your kind words. For some reason, ingrown nails tend to elicit a great deal of trepidation in some patients. However, we deal with this complaint on a daily basis, and the truth is, few patients have much difficulty with the procedure or experience much in the way of discomfort. I appreciate your writing a positive review, as it may encourage patients to deal with an ingrown nail early, before the problem becomes more significant. Gracias por su evaluación; la aprecio mucho. Dr. Schumacher is the BEST! My family physician and the plastic surgeon she referred me to, had no idea what to do about the 'mass' on my heel. Fortunately Dr. Lih (another great Podiatrist) knew of someone that could help me - Dr. Schumacher. He tackled my difficult problem and did an absolutely amazing job. I can wear shoes again, do Yoga and walk again - pain free. Thanks to Dr. Schumacher, I have my life back! Can't praise him enough!

Thank you very much for your gracious review. Yours was an interesting tumor, and given the weight-bearing location, a somewhat complex and challenging surgical repair. I'm very pleased you're back functioning again and are happy with the result. Thanks for coming down to the coast to see us. Best regards, SAS

Very friendly staff. Dr Schumacher has a great sense of humour which puts you at ease. Definitely recommend him since prices tend to be the same among podiatrists so "bedside" manner counts for a lot.

Thank you for your kind review. Diabetic wound care is a specialty of ours, and helping to save limbs is probably the most rewarding part of my profession. Foot sores (or ulcers) have a high recurrence rate and can result in infections, amputations, and even premature death. This is a good place to remind all diabetics to come in regularly for preventative care, or at the first indication of a problem. Most problems are preventable and healable if addressed early. We'll always try to see you as soon as possible. SAS

This was my first time seeing a podiatrist and I was unsure of what to expect. Dr. Schumacher was super friendly, gave me a few options for treatment, most of which were very inexpensive. Best of all was his great sense of humor. Thanks doc!

My first visit to Dr. Schumaker was to fix a plantars wart that had bothered me for several years. I had gone to other doctors and tried several remedies but the problem still persisted . One visit to Dr. Schumacher and the problem went away forever. Several years later I had a problem with a bone spur . I taco several specialists and they said that nothing could be done and the only thing that would help was to be fitted with special shoes. Dr. Schumaker said that was true except that he was using a special technique called shockwave therapy that had a good chance of fixing my problem . He said the odds were about 80% that the bone spur could be broken down with this treatment. I said with those odds maybe you can fix my shoulder to which is been bothering me because of calcium buildup . He said will fix that too. Well three weeks later I was free of the bone spur and was able to ballroom dance and my shoulder was fixed that I could go back to playing baseball. In my opinion Dr. Schumacher is the best in the world.

Thank you very much for your review. We have pretty good results in treating even complicated warts. As for shockwave, in the right patients, it can seem like a miracle. I've been in the field for nearly 20 years and am internationally certified, so I know well what shockwave can do. I'm very pleased to hear you're doing well, and I appreciate the positive feedback.
