Ratings for Dr. Michael Nikolakis
Referral went great, a+ 'bedside manner', said he would operate on my neck, we discussed fusion vs disc replacement - i felt relief that i was going to finally have a solution to this daily pain gradually getting worse. wait list was long 1-2 yrs quoted to me, understandable. i had to sign the forms & due to unforeseen circumstances i was unable to sign right away. when i was able to go forward again, i called the office (when they were still taking phone calls) & was advised that i need a new referral & to have my new mri i was getting attached with the new referral so i could get the forms done up to sign off on. all of this was done, sent, waited - nothing. my dr office gets a blanket letter stating they are no longer taking new patients. this didnt apply to me as im not a new patient. my dr office gets another letter stating that if i want to get the surgery now i have to PAY PRIVATELY NOW for it >>> the same surgery he ALREADY approved me for under the covered bc medical...??? now the office only corresponds via email - i had my dr office write to them again inquiring about this decision & they refused to change their decision or take me back as a patient. Now i have to start this all over again, do more referrals, etc - im feeling completely dejected, my symptoms from this herniated disc & multiple areas of moderate to severe stenosis are affecting me every day. Dr Nikolakis was my 2nd referral (Dr Heran was my 1st & he was completely useless) & i was hopeful when he came into the room & immediately did some tests & knew right away what needed to be done.........only to be told after the fact that he wont see me anymore & if i still want him to do my surgery i have to PAY. are you kidding me?! what kind of SHAM are you running here? this is the BC Medical system at its best folks & they get away with it while patients suffer! (sorry for this long winded review but ppl need to know the truth.)
Dr. Nikolakis is gem. He was the first doctor to properly diagnose my condition. He is very kind, knowledgeable, and I think he did a great job on my surgery. My neck feels back to normal now. Thank you so much for giving me my life back Dr. N!
After 5 years of severe pain alternating with being reduced to a shuffle Dr Nikolakis completely restored my mobility and I have been pain free for almost 5 months. He was my 3rd and final surgeon. Confident, knowledgeable and among the top of his field. Life changing experience.
Have been waiting for over 7 months for an appointment. The receptionist asked me to not call. I called after 5 months. (Ignore my rating for knowledge as I haven't seen him). TO all people that have completed surgery and are feeling better - what did you do while waiting for surgery? Physio, pain killers drugs?
Dr. Nikolakis is a very special person. Caring, compassionate, and knowledgeable. I can't say enough kind things about this man. He knows what he is talking about, and most importantly he really cares about people. Thank you Dr. N for your great work on me. I will forever be grateful.
I saw Dr. Nikolakis in Dec 2015 for a neck injury. I've been on the waiting list ever since. I heard from the office in Dec 2016 asking if I was still interested in the surgery. I called the other day (Apr 11) and was told I'm near the top of the list but they have so many emergency brain surgeries that it makes it difficult to schedule elective surgeries. I understand triaging patients and obviously the most urgent cases get their surgeries first but I have been in constant pain for 4 years and it's time to get my neck fixed. At least refer me somewhere else if you can't schedule me in. I'm starting to wonder if I'll ever get my call.
Dr. Nikolakis is a great doctor and really listens to what you have to say. I can't say the same for his receptionist. The phones are NEVER answered - even my family doctor complains about it. Messages are never returned. And, when she cancels your appointment she tells you she called but she never did. Worst specialist receptionist I have ever encountered and very frustrating for a patient who has been waiting a call back to schedule an appointment for 6 months and finally gets it only to have it changed 2 times and then cancelled. This is not what we expect from a doctor's office in Canada. Courtesy works both ways.
He is absolutely amazing! I'm only 22 and had a very large disc herniation due to a gym injury and after many misdiagnosis's (because I'm so young no doctor really wanted to believe me) and extreme pain I was dealing with, he was the only one that was kind enough to help me. I am now a week and a half post-op and never felt better and couldn't be more thankful for him and his entire team for their vast amount of knowledge and bed side manners. Everything was done on time with no delays and they all made sure I wasn't even a bit nervous going into the OR and was very well taken care of post surgery too. I would highly recommend Dr. Nikolakis! You couldn't be in better hands!!
