Ratings for Dr. Melanie L. Appell
Her nurse was very nice and caring. Dr. Appell, not so much. I agree with the other comments regarding her being rude. Her nurse apologized for the doctor's behavior. i had a biopsy and received a letter with a diagnosis telling me to start taking an over the counter medication, which I did not do as I had suspected it was a reaction to a medication. As soon as I started taking the prescribed steroid, the rash and symptoms went away. At follow up visit it's like she doesn't remember what you're there for. Isn't that what records are for? Also, they require payment at time of visit. If you have a High Deductible Health plan better check your EOB's. The physician should see what your plan allows/pays first and then bill you for balance. As a Blue Cross provider they' re supposed to accept what BC allows; however, the overcharged me and I had to contact them about a refund.
I have been to Dr. Appell twice for the same skin condition. She is all over the place on what she thinks it is. Keeps changing her mind didn't remember or didn't take notes on previous visits so I had to tell her what she said previously. I am not confident with her as my dermatologist.
Did not care for this doctor at all. She very briefly scanned my body and said she was not sure what the large fast growing growth was on my leg. She then said do you want it taken off? I told her I wanted it checked, she left and let her asst. Take it off. She was not caring or thorough. Will never return. I just hope the benign opinion is correct.
Dr. Appeal has been my dermatologist for many years. My last 3 visits we unacceptable.the last one, I had poison oak and a lot of it. I had been walking around in poison oak up to my knees doing work on my acerage. I made her made this day because I would not let her do her 5 second total body scan. So, she told he I had scabies but didn't do any skin scraping to make a correct diagnosis. She gave me a shot and cream for the poison oak -- evidently she knew as I knew it was poison oak. I will never use her again after 20 years. It's sad when a doctor will tell you a lie just because I wouldn't let her do a full body scan. SHE IS A TERRIBLE DOCTOR AND I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND HER TO ANYONE FOR ANYTHING.
She misdiagnosed me after I waited two months to see her and then an hour in the office. She was in the room for a total of 78 seconds. I know because I timed it. She was rude and snobby and didn't want to touch me. I don't know why anyone would go to any of the doctors at this place. ITS NOTHING BUT A MILL. THEY DONT CARE ABOUT PATIENTS ONLY MONEY.
Dr. Appell was the dermatologist for my entire family for a number of years. However, I had a spot that I felt uncomfortable with and asked her to remove it. She said "it's fine." My gut instinct told me differently. Since I was already there and had taken off work, I asked her to please just remove it because the looks of it bothered me. Good thing I did because it turned out to be a melanoma! Considering melanoma is the fastest spreading, deadliest form of cancer, I thank God my gut went against the doctor. After all that, their office had the nerve to send me a bill for $6.00! I was floored! I called them to ask if they were serious. When I realized how frivolous they were and the fact they almost misdiagnosed a deadly cancer, I requested a copy of my records and immediately changed doctors. I would not recommend them to anyone.
I have been seeing Dr. Appell for a little while now and though she is not always on time, (I usually wait anywhere from 15-25 minutes) she is an amazing doctor. WORTH THE WAIT! The procedures I have had done were painless, efficient, and most importantly, effective. I highly recommend Dr. Appell to anyone who is in search of a top notch dermatologist who won't waste your time or money.
I saw Dr. Appell for hair loss.I told her that I had been to a dermatologist and knew that I had pattern baldness. She ordered a blood test and took a biopsy. She told me that we would know something about my condition when I returned for my follow up two weeks later. When I returned, she told me that I had pattern baldness....duh, i told you that! She had no additional information to the first visit (which was nothing) She recommended a drug called Propecia to me "•you should know that finasteride is only for use in men. If taken by pregnant women, finasteride can harm the male fetus. Women who are, could become, or may be pregnant should not take finasteride or touch broken or crushed finasteride tablets. If a pregnant woman takes or touches finasteride tablets, she should talk to her doc" (http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmedhealth/PMH0001028/). Then she tried to make me pay another co-pay for a follow up visit. Worst doctor ever! Do not waste your time or money on this doc.
Dr. Appell is fantastic! She is very professional and knowledgeable in her field of practice. Very knowledgeable in breaking research for skin care. I would not trust anyone else with my skin. She has a friendly yet serious demeanor and truly does care for the overall health of her patients.
