I have had my share of psychiatrists over the years. I have lived in several areas. My favorite was a older Dr. From Alberta Hospital. When he retired my file was transferred to Dr. Mills. I have Bipolar 1 with psychotic episodes. I witnessed a homicide several years back and tried many times to find someone to work out the thoughts, visions and feelings associated with that. It has haunted me a long time. Through Dr mills I have been able to work it through a healing process. I still think of it from time to time, but it no longer reduces me to tears. I had some major depression issues and asked for ECT treatment as it worked in the past, he listened to me and after several treatments, changes to my mess, I have been mostly stable now for over a year. Thanks Dr. Mills :-)

Met Mills regarding my adult son the day after son was committed to the Grey Nuns hospital. Was told by Millls it was 30 day commit. He told my ex-wife, my spouse and me that we would be notified prior to release and would have a follow up meeting. Son was released the following Monday without notice to any of us. Doctor's knowledge of son was inadequate and he was the very opposite of helpful. Staff did not notify. We phoned the hospital to talk to the social worker the morning my son was released and have never received a call back. We were given the name of an addictions counsellor, called that person and also never received a call back. My son's girlfriend phoned and was told he was being released. She let us know. Son was medicated with anti-psychotics and Ativan at least the last 3 of the five nights (Fri, Sat, Sun) at Grey Nuns yet for some reason he was OK for release Monday. Visited son several hours Sunday night and he was not OK hence the need for meds. Thanks.

Dr Mills 1st saw me when I was admitted into psych ward @ Grey Nuns and has continued seeing me for 3yrs. He listens, is open to suggestions, is knowledgable, quirky & funny in a dry way, makes you feel safe and is very much wanting to see his patients improve wether that be increase or decrease meds. he's NOT a pill pusher but knows his stuff! he works with my social worker Gurinder (AMAZING!) & together they are a great team who have filled out countless forms for my insurance, work, income support, etc since 2009. they are always filled out on time asap and faxed right away. he also gives me free samples monthly for my meds that are not covered but work the best for me. I would not be alive today if it weren't for Dr. Mills!!! :)

Dr Mills is very knowledgeable on dealing with personality disorders. Although, quick to prescribe medication, he was willing to put the time into talk therapy also.

Dr. Mills was very helpful, listened and had empathy for my problems. He was steadfast about my taking my medications. He took me on after I was brought to Emergency at the Grey Nuns Hospital. He is retiring and is securing another Psychiatrist to help me. He saw me in his office which is what I wanted office, not clinic visits. Dr. Mills was at all times professional and although he did not want to delve into too long an appointment, when I would have liked it to be longer. When I had a problem with his receptionist, he looked into the problem because I needed to see him sooner and I found her unable or unwilling to give me a sooner appointment. I found she was organized with the appointment book and such but she talked in a monitone and didn't not have the personality that I would have liked. Dr. Mills is professional but sometimes too professional, not an easy person to talk to when I first went to him, but I got used to him and realized that that was what made him good.
