Ratings for Dr. Eric Bernstein
There was a time, when I first started at your practice, that I really felt valued as a patient and also as a customer. However, something has changed in your office. The caring, the consideration, the patient centered focus has all gone by the wayside. I was not treated with respect. The MA's were rude. Your providers treated my like a drug addict for my use of muscle relaxers. Bear in mind, that my use of that medication was long documented and never abused and yet, each visit I was FORCED to do a drug screen in order to continue to prove my worth as a patient. Let me say this, not only am I a nurse, but I am a nurse for the United States Army. I am a wife of 20 plus years, mother to 3, and grandmother to 2 and I assure you, being treated as if I was a drug addict is humiliating. I did not deserve to be treated in that manner. Dr. Bernstein, I had a one on one conversation with you in which you practically accused me of abusing opioids because of a single instance of Tramadol prescription for severe pain. Your bedside manner is appalling. I will be reviewing your practice on all available sites so that no other patient is treated as if they are worthless. You should all be ashamed of yourselves. When I first started at your practice, you had 4 stars, your staff was caring, kind, thoughtful, and considerate. Today you have barely 2 stars and your staff can at best be described as lackluster. I can see why so many of your Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants have left the practice. My strong advice to you is to make changes and make them fast before ALL of your patients fire you. In my opinion, after 8 years with this practice: When faced with a choice between doing what's in the best interest of the patient or squeezing the most money out of Medicare or Tricare, he opts for the dollars. For example: I requested a renewed prescription for the same insulin I have been taking for years, asking for 90 days supply with three refills, he refused, writing for one month supply with two refills. He had in the past, on numerous occasions, written 90 day/3 refills. But, there is a lot more money to be made writing short term prescriptions more often, regardless of the inconvenience to the patient. He did this after changing the status of my diabetes from "uncontrolled" to "controlled" for the first time in several years, and also after I declined to switch from Lantus to Toujeo at his suggestion, without any indication of medical necessity. Scruples don't appear to enter into medical decisions for this doctor. He has more and more placed his priorities for increasing revenue over patient welfare, at least in my case. Medicare has a name for it, it's called "gaming", and it's all about making decisions based on the more lucrative coding options when billing Medicare, and Tricare (which follows Medicare fee schedules, for the most part). I have several other incidences that I could cite, and I will provide them if asked, but I would not recommend this doctor's business for any of my friends. I can't bring myself to sell out my friends. I have moved on after a 9 year relationship that began deteriorating when I discovered on my own that I did'nt need all those drugs he was prescribing, and stopped going along with all the "procedures" he offers, most of which do nothing to improve patient health or well-being. And now I find he has locked me out of the patient portal.
We have been patients of Dr. Bernstein's for 7 years, and I am so disappointed in what's happened to his practice, specifically in the last year. It is impossible to get ahold of the office staff. I left messages for his nurse every other day for 3 weeks and no one ever returned my call. It was extremely difficult to get a prescription refilled, and no one ever called with lab results. One time I called to make an appointment, and I was put on hold until the system hung up on me TWICE. Dr. Bernstein is very nice, but the practice has become so awful that we are forced to change doctors. I simply cannot see a physician who is that difficult to contact or even make an appointment with. I hope they see these reviews and make necessary changes.
Dr. Bernstein or San Antonio Family has been one of the worst Doctors to my wife and my Sister n Law ever why would that office make them so mad that they break down and cry . Why anyone goes there is beyond me. I will never step foot in there again
