I was prescribed medication (amphetamines), without an evaluation. This doctor upped my dosage of the medication and then abruptly took me off of the medication - despite the drug manufacturer's warnings. He then ignored my suicide note. I ended up in the hospital an accrued THOUSANDS of dollars of debt. His actions show both an arrogance and an incompetence that is dangerous in any health care provider. When I submitted a complaint to the medical board, the medical board stated the 'standard of care' had not been violated - this is because the 'standard of care' for psychiatrists is very minimal. Psychiatric patients truly have no rights - they are at the mercy of whatever their psychiatrist thinks. In California, there is a $250,000 cap on medical malpractice awards and a limit on attorneys’ fees. Attorneys in California will not go near a psychiatric malpractice case. The system is unethical and psychiatric patients have no rights. Be careful.
