Daughter in hospital for MRSA. Called in on consultation for pain management, he gave her Fentanil on top of Dilaudid pump which kept her knocked out most of the2 .5 weeks she was hospitalized. Sent her home with only Fentanil patch. When she went into withdrawal, had to return her to hospital where he gave her more Fentanil. Planned to send her back home with nothing,to detox. His discharge orders then were to see him in 2 weeks and a R/X for more Fentanil patches. He was not interested in any information from me about her condition, or what drugs she had been taking from other doctors. Simply accused her of being a "drug addict" and bringing her medicine from home which was totally untrue. She never took any drug not prescribed by a doctor nor did we take any with her to the hospital. How do you detox from opiate dependency with more opiates?
