Ratings for Dr. J. Douglas Abbott
Dr. Abbott is a little gruff when you first meet him; during his initial exam he is all business, and once he hears the answer to his question, he quickly moves on to his next w/o letting you complete your thought. But once he is done his examination and sits down and talks to you, he is a ****cat. He is very caring and very knowledgeable. He will not B S you, and he really works hard to help you understand whats going on. He will talk to the other doctors for you, call doctors for you, write letters etc. I love him! Don't let his initial gruffness turn you off. His office staff has been excellent so far also. I have been there about 5 times. So far it's been a great facility - I've seen the pain specialists there and have had tests done downstairs. Almost no waiting! I would definitely try this office/doc/specialists. I wish they had a P C doctor there as well!
I had an initial evaluation by Dr Abbott for disc damage and possible surgery that resulted in a referral to physical therapy and prescription for pain. I waited over thirty min each time, even though the appts were among his first of the day, 8am. A prescription modification request needed two weeks and four followup calls to be resolved. On the followup visit, this patient reported suffering severe pain in the right arm, which is a sporadic occurance. Dr Abbott did not examine the patient to ascertain the origin & nature of the pain, instead prescribing pain killers to mask the symptoms. He had failed to read the reports sent by the PT until in the presence of this patient, and then realized (after six wks of PT) that the PT were not following his prescribed method of treatmt. He then yelled at this patient repeatedly, even though the errors were his in not reading the reports nd following-up. When requested by the patient to not yell, he told her to find another doctor.
