Ratings for Dr. Scott Sicherer
Dr. Sicherer is brilliant in his field. He is highly regarded by many & is very involved in FAAN. He wears many hats - attending physician, professor, researcher, author and medical advisor. It goes without saying he is in high demand. He seems to prefer to act conservatively. That being said, we feel as though he does not take our child's allergies very seriously and seems to take a very "hands off" approach to our child's care. We feel as though he pans off of questions onto other of our child's specialists - even though they are clearly allergy-related questions and concerns. In our experience, many of the allergists at MSSM are very competent and if you are looking for more of the good bedside manner-type doctor, I would suggest seeking out one of the other allergists within the practice.
Dr. Sicherer is one of the top pediatric allergists in the country. He teaches, lectures, writes, and does research in this field. I took my child to see him because she had many severe food allergies and we found our local, small-town allergist was just not knowledgeable enough. The downside: the wait to see him is VERY long, appointments take a while (he has interns do appointments with him) and it is not the most relaxed office (it's in a major hospital). So, if your child has serious food allergies or you have concerns, he is the guy to see. If your pediatrician is handling things fine, then there's probably no reason to go to a specialist.
