Ratings for Dr. Alice Klinkhoff
Dr. Klinkoff has always been polite, very helpful, empathetic, punctual and very knowledgeable. I find her and office staff very welcoming and empathetic as well. She's has helped me immensely with my severe and prolonged osteoarthritis. She has supported me as well in my navigation of the process of numerous joint replacements. Wonderful.
I did not have a good experience at all dealing with Dr. Klinkhoff. It started out that I was double booked with another person, and because I was the new patient, they decided to take the other person first. I waited 40 minutes for my appointment, and was then put into an office with piles of personal patient files covering the desk in front of me. When Dr. Klinkhoff finally arrived, she asked me a couple of questions, and then excused herself to finish dealing with another patient. When she returned 5 minutes later, she asked another couple of questions, and then left again. This happened 4 times; each time should would be gone 5-10 minutes and then return to try and pick up where she left off in questioning. By the time she moved me into an examination room, I hadn't even had a chance to discuss all of my symptoms. She simply examined me and was then going to send me off with a back xray (which did not correlate to why I was there). When I mentioned I really wanted to discuss the abnormal blood results I had received, she first didn't know what blood tests I was referring to. She then skimmed through them, irritated, and completely disregarded them and told me they didn't mean I actually had those things. I reminded her of my family history discussed earlier in the appointment, and taking the blood results into consideration, I mentioned I was concerned about a couple of specific conditions I wanted to rule out. She flat out told me I didn't have them. When I asked her how she knew that (since she didn't even know all of my symptoms) she proceeded to tell me "because people with those are sick. Really sick". I'm not exactly sure how she gathered that I wasn't "sick". She also rudely told me she couldn't diagnose me in one appointment (which I would never expect anyway), but she could tell me what I didn't have, and I didn't have either of the things I was concerned about. I had to insist that she at least send me for further blood testing, and she reluctantly gave me a req for a couple of tests. I was incredibly disappointed, and after being there for over an hour and a half (mostly waiting on my own), I left feeling extremely frustrated and disregarded. I waited months for that appointment, only to be made to feel like I didn't matter. I won't be going back to her, and have since gone back to my GP to request a new referral.
Hey another point of view. I was diagnosed with Arthritis in 1981, since the I had had episodes of back and joint paint frequently. I was treated by Dr Klinkhoff in 1986/87. She also used me as model for her students at UBC. Well I took once the painkillers for my joint pain for about a month (indomethacin), but after I faced some side effects I stopped taking them. I decided to read more about what could reduce or stop the pains. I got to reading more about how diet can effect the suffering, ideas by Dr. Bukovsky (Slovakia) and Mrs Boutenko (USA). By Dr Klinkhoff projection the episodes of pain and morning stiffness would intensify by my age. It scared me, lucky I got familiar with a healthy diet with my ex wife. Stopped eating meat, drinking milk and buying organic products as the books by Dr Bukovsky and Mrs Boutenko suggested. Guess what 30 years later all my pain is gone, back pain joint pain any pains. I have not seen my doctor for years. I hike, I bike, I ski, I run. At age 66 I am fit and feel good. The discipline in diet and staying active changed my life. I reduced the intake of toxins (loose radicals)and I think this is one of the secrets to go pain free and improve my life. I know it might not work for all of us, but for some there is way without THE DRUGS !!!!
My experience with this woman goes back many years. I only went to see her once and was treated with such disdain, one could even say contempt, that I stayed away from rheumatologists for years and simply managed as best I could on my own with NSAIDs. Only recently did I discover that I've long had ankylosing spondylitis. She gave a vague description while reading something unrelated to me and then simply dismissed me with utter disregard for her duties and obligations, less yet my wellbeing. The favourable comments raise questions in my mind as to their relationship with this woman. Highly questionable veracity.
Dr. Klinkhoff has been mine and my sister's doctor for 25 years. She is very caring and compassionate. She was the only one who could get my RA under control. I have excellent quality of life now and on minimum meds. My sister has Lupus and would have died if not for the expertise of Dr. Klinkhoff. We are so grateful to have her as our dr.
