Ratings for Dr. Marjorie S. Ardon
My rating is based on med management as well as her therapy skills-or rather, lack thereof. She seemed to know her medications-until I brought up the fact that patients aren't supposed to eat a certain food on the med she gave me. She was surprised even after giving this med to so many of her inmate patients. I brought up adding another med to boost the effect of an antidepressant and she scoffed and said that med was only for pychosis. 2 appointments later, she asked if I wanted that same add-on med because its good for depression. I was lucky and my meds did make me feel better so that was a plus. As far as therapy- I couldn't handle the fact that she couldn't remember who my family members were, what their Dx are, they way she cut me off mid sentence when I tried to bring up a traumatic childhood experience by saying that all kids experience the same thing, that blank, uninterested stare when I talked about something I enjoyed, and the smirking at innapproriate times. She kept insisting I apply for a job at a certain coffee shop because they offer good insurance despite the fact that I have a job and insurance which she would bill after each appointment. (I could always extra money for my debt, but I have a full work schedule and skills outside of food service jobs). Her awkward attempts at reflection were really annoying. I'd tell a simple narrative, she would repeat back part of the content incorrectly, and rarely acknowledge the emotional part of the narrative. Other times, she would point out the painfully obvious. She didn't seem to understand or accept why I refused to contact toxic family members (despite my explanations of the abusive history, bad dynamics and the need to care for my own mental health) as she would encourage me to call and send them stuff at the holidays. I believe a good therapist should avoid giving advice as much as possible but one of her fav phrases was "can't you just..." She shared the following gems with me-if you're overqualified for a job, leave your educational info off your resume (pretty sure you can get fired if the employer finds out you lied on a resume) and ladies, you simply must cut your hair short at a certain age!
