I discovered fibroid while I was pregnant with my first baby. My fibroid grew to 9cm while I was pregnant with my second baby. My OB doctor say I don't need to do anything unless I have severe abdominal pain or anemic. I was having heavy bleeding every month and, unfortunately, once I found out I was anemic, my fibroids have grown to 4cm and 10 cm from the Ultrasound.
I originally saw three OB doctors before I found Dr. Parker. One of the doctor recommended embolization, but I do not feel comfortable doing so.
The other two OB doctors recommended hysterectomy (remove my uterus) so the fibroid will not grow back. One of the OB doctor even want to remove my fallopian tube.
Most doctors recommend hysterectomy if you no longer wish to have babies because it is easier than myomectomy. Laparascopy myomectomy takes more skills, experience and patience to perform. Yet, don't forget that the uterus still has its function. So, please don't give up your organ easily. They are priceless.
After several months of thorough research, I finally found Dr. Parker on the website. He provided a lot of information and resources about fibroid treatment options. When Dr Parker ordered the MRI, it came out 3 fibroids; 4cm, 6cm and 8cm. I was shocked. Yet, I feel very comfortable after talking to him regarding my situation including many of my concerns, including my body size.
(I am a small Asian woman who is less than 5 ft. Dr. Parker was able to perform laparascopy without hesitation)
He was able to answer all my questions and feel confident that he can help me with my problems.
He was able to perform laparoscopy to remove fibroids while other doctors do not recommend at all. The best they can do is open surgery of myomectomy or hysterectomy.
Dr. Parker is such a fine doctor with very prestige skills and many years of experience.
He is my last hope. I am so glad and greatful that I finally found Dr. Parker.
After about a year of watchful waiting I knew it was time to have my three submucosal fibroids removed (largest was 6 cm). I had very heavy periods and also knew based on the research that my particular type of fibroids (submucosal) made me 70% less likely to get pregnant. Initially learning about my fibroids was a tough process of trying to figure out the best course of treatment. I wanted to avoid invasive surgery as much as possible but at the same time wanted to do whatever needed to be done to make me more likely to get pregnant, as well as make my periods “normal.” My first step was gathering as much information as possible and found Dr. Parker’s website which alone reflects how committed and focused he is on the treatment of fibroids. Based on the size, type, and location of my fibroids, Dr. Parker recommended full abdominal myomectomy but did not pressure me and in fact I waited 4 months before actually having surgery. During that time I continued to research and even spoke with a laproscopic expert at Stanford who told me he could remove my fibroids laproscopically, however upon further research and advice from my father (who is also an MD) and his colleagues, they confirmed that laproscopic surgery would mean cutting up the pieces (morcellating) the fibroids to remove them through the small incisions which is not recommended by the FDA, longer duration of surgery, and greater likelihood of missing fibroids that were not detected on the ultrasound/MRI. I was apprehensive about full surgery but after hours and hours (probably days!) of research and speaking with different doctors I knew full abdominal myomectomy was the right choice for me.
My experience with Dr. Parker from the initial consultation to after surgery was excellent. Before surgery, Dr. Parker and his team provided plenty of information to help me prepare (incl. what to have at home for my recovery). During surgery, Dr. Parker’s team was frequently updating my husband so he was in the loop on my progress which was very thoughtful. They ended up removing 3 more fibroids which were not detected on MRI (for a total of 6). Yet another reason why abdominal myomectomy was the right choice. And following surgery I felt fully supported with Dr. Parker visiting and calling to check in on me. I was also pleasantly surprised by how small and low my incision is; it is truly hidden even under a low bikini and is a thin line. I must also mention how great Dr. Parker’s office staff is – they pick up the phone, are prompt when providing/processing paperwork, and are friendly. For me those “little things” were actually very important because preparing for surgery is stressful enough, you don’t need administrative challenges to make things any more difficult.
My results so far have been great. After recovery where I took a month off from work, I’m now back to being able to exercise as much as I did before and thankfully my periods are now normal! Next step is trying to get pregnant, but even without that I’m so happy I had the surgery. Once I saw what had been in my uterus and now that my periods are normal, it seems unimaginable that I would have waited any longer, in fact I wish I had done it sooner. And while I was worried about surgery it really was manageable and I felt so lucky to have been under Dr. Parker’s care and expertise. I cannot recommend Dr. Parker and his team enough.
I found out I have a 11 cm fibroid over a year ago. I have seen four OB doctors before I found Dr. William Parker. Three of them told me laparoscopic surgery is not an option (they said it has to be under 10cm). One of them told me hysterectomy is the only option. I was so glad my friend did a lot of research and found Dr. William Parker (because she also has big fibroid). After I first met Dr. Parker, I felt so confident of his profession. He told me he can laparoscopic surgery. I booked the surgery immediately. He is very personable. I felt so comfortable for him to do surgery for me. Now it has been two weeks after the surgery and I recover very well. The scars are also healed nicely. I can't say enough thank you to Dr. Parker. He is a very warm person and I feel he truly cares for all his patients.
Almost a year ago during my annual pap smear exam, I was diagnosed with fibroids. I had no clue what those were but was told they are not cancerous. After an Ultrasound and a CT scan, it was found I had a few large fibroids measuring approximately 19-20cm. I consulted with about 3 doctors and they all suggested a Hysterectomy. Mind you, I did my research before seeing these doctors so I asked about the Myomectomy procedure. Their response was it would be impossible because my fibroids were too large. When I said I would like to have kids one day, the third doctor told me I’m too old to have kids and gave me the statistics of miscarriages in women in my age group. I’m in my late thirties. I was appalled by her statements and lack of bedside manner that I decided to do my own research for another doctor. I refused to accept that a Hysterectomy is my only option. I went home that day and googled “best fibroid surgeon in US” and Dr. William Parker came up. After further research on Dr. Parker, I knew he would be the doctor that can help me.
Before I can see Dr. Parker, I had to get an MRI. Once that was done, my first consultation was scheduled. On that day, I brought my sister for support. We both were so impressed by Dr. Parker.
When he told me he can remove the fibroids without a Hysterectomy, I almost cried right there in his office. The procedure that he would perform is an Abdominal Myomectomy which is the same procedure the other three doctors said it would be impossible. He explained in detail the process of the procedure and even showed us some videos. He answered all of my questions and explained in detail my MRI images. It showed I may have 15+ fibroids. He was so warm, patient, caring and knowledgeable. The appointment lasted almost an hour. I was surprised because most doctors would rush you out in 15 minutes. I did not have that with Dr. Parker.
On the day of the surgery, I was feeling a little anxious but the nurses and staff at the UCLA Medical Center put me at ease. Dr. Parker also came by a few times before the surgery to make sure I was doing okay. Everyone was caring and so professional. During the surgery, 35 tumors were found in my uterus. All I can say was WOW but Dr. Parker was able to remove all of them. He is just amazing!
I stayed about 2 nights in the hospital and I have to say the nurses and staff were wonderful. They all made sure I was comfortable. Dr. Parker came by the hospital each day to check up on me. This really shows me how he genuinely cares about his patients and their well being.
Post Surgery, I am recovering well. I can definitely feel a difference in my energy and pain levels. The symptoms (pain, heavy bleeding, fatigue,) from those fibroids really affected my quality of life. They were so big that it grew up into my rib cage so I always felt the pain and pressure. Plus I was always exhausted that it was hard to get through the day sometimes. But THANKS to Dr. Parker, I’m on the road to a healthier life and I can start to feel like myself again. Dr. Parker is exceptional and I highly recommend him to anyone who has problems with fibroids. I am so grateful and blessed to have found him. He truly has changed my life for the better. Thank you again Dr. Parker!!
My fibroids started becoming very problematic and started affecting my quality of life more significantly about 4-5 years ago. My symptoms were pressure, bloating, back pain and frequent urination; with at least 2-4 nightly visits to the bathroom. After putting of any kind of intervention, I decided to see a gynecologist. After ordering a ct scan, he suggested an abdominal hysterectomy was the only option due to the number and size of my fibroids. I was horrified and depressed, I did not want a hysterectomy nor did I want a large scar up and down my belly. My search for alternatives started at that point. After visiting with three other gynecologists, I was given no other alternative but a hysterectomy. Frantic and discouraged, my search continued on the internet until I came across Dr. Parkers website. I was so impressed by his philosophy in preserving the uterus and the many large fibroids he has successfully removed with a bikini line incision, I felt there was hope for me. I wasted no time in contacting his office.
I had my abdominal myomectomy done August 24th 2015 and am recovering very well. Dr. Parker removed 30 fibroids from my very petite frame where I had fibroids coming up to my right rib cage. It feels great not to feel fibroids all the way up to my chest when I sit down. I have a bikini line incision which is healing very nicely. It feels great not to feel the pressure and bloating from fibroids and have a flatter tummy. Most importantly, I have been sleeping through the night w/o trips to the bathroom and the frequency and urgency to go during the day are no longer there. The difference is amazing. I had forgotten normal. Thank you so much Dr. Parker for being such a down to earth and skilled surgeon who really cares about the female reproductive system.
I am truly grateful to Dr. Parker. Prior to visiting Dr. Parker I had seen numerous doctors who could not offer abdominal myomectomy because they all told me my fibroid was too big and the only option was a hysterectomy which I did not want. When I met Dr. Parker for an consultation I immediately felt at ease and I knew I found the right doctor who could help me get rid of the large cantaloupe size fibroid. Dr. Parker, his staff and everyone at the Santa Monica-UCLA Medical Center exceeded all of my expectations. 22 fibroids were removed during surgery. I was worried about the pain level but thanks to the ON-Q pain pump for the first few days I experienced very little pain. The hospital stay was amazing. Recovery has been wonderful. It is an unbelievable feeling to be fibroid-free! Having rested for 3 weeks now I am returning to work next week. I am going to recommend Dr. Parker to all of my friends because being under his compassionate and skilled care I believe he is the best gynecologist in America!
I came to Dr. Parker following a diagnosis of a very large mass that my gynecologist believed to be a uterine sarcoma. I consulted with doctors in my area who insisted that the only way to extract the mass was by way of a hysterectomy involving a very large incision. Being only thirty years old and desiring children in the future, I was terrified at the thought of losing my ability to have a baby and being diagnosed with cancer at such a young age. When my gynecologist continued to pressure me to undergo the hysterectomy as soon as possible, I decided to do my own research and came across Dr. Parker’s website. I spent countless hours reviewing the information on his site; everything from his videos to his research and his credentials. It was then that I decided to give Dr. Parker a call. All my fears were put to rest as soon as I had my initial consultation. Dr. Parker was thorough, well informed, listened to all my concerns, and encouraged my questions…truly professional in every way. Whereas other doctors I had seen were in awe at the size of my abdomen, Dr. Parker treated me with respect and never made me feel stupid for having gone undiagnosed for so long. He allowed me the opportunity to be part of my treatment plan and we worked together to put together a timeline for surgery that worked for me. Thanks to Dr. Parker’s expertise I was able to put my anxiety to rest and I was able to wait a few months to have the myomectomy.
I am currently two and a half months post surgery and I couldn’t be happier. Dr. Parker successfully extracted a six-pound fibroid leaving only a barely visible scar along my bikini line and leaving my uterus intact. Dr. Parker kept me informed through every step of the process and went above and beyond what I ever expected from a doctor. He truly is the best, most caring doctor you will encounter in the area of fibroids. I would sincerely encourage every woman who has been diagnosed with a uterine mass to seek Dr. Parker’s opinion.
Words can't even express how grateful I am to Dr. Parker. My husband and I had been trying to get pregnant for nearly 2 years. We finally decided to get some help and was nearly mislead by a less experienced doctor. We discovered that I had two fibroids, one was of substantial size - 16cm. It had distorted my uterus which we suspect was the cause of the infertility. The original doctor suggested we do nothing to the fibroid and get pregnant aggressively with the help of IUI/IVF. There were obviously some concerns given the size of the fibroid. Even if we were able to get pregnant, we were also concerned that I wouldn't be able to carry the baby to term. I was obsessed and wanted to make the best decision for myself. Google was my best friend and I read up on anything I can find about fibroids and that's how I found Dr. Parker. Everywhere I saw his name, his patients raved about him. I needed a second opinion and I knew he was the doctor I needed to get it from.
After a visit with Dr. Parker and a visit with a fertility doctor that he recommended, we decided as a team that it was in my best interest to remove the fibroids. I was scared. I've never had such an invasive surgery and I've never spent the night at the hospital before. Dr. Parker's office staff were incredible at securing all the necessary paperwork I needed for work, for my insurance, etc. They were quick, efficient and kept me posted every step of the way.
My surgery was a success! It had minimal impact on my uterus, which was so important to me. After only a few weeks, my uterus is located where it should be and nearly back to its normal size. During surgery, the nurse kept my family informed of the progress. Once the surgery was completed, Dr. Parker found my family and updated them himself. Even though the surgery was a bit more complicated given the location of the big fibroid (it was tucked away behind some organs), I had minimal blood loss and had responded well to the surgery. My recovery was amazingly quick. I was doing laps around the hospital floor the first night after surgery and I was off of pain medication once I was discharged from the hospital. Every day I was in the hospital, Dr. Parker would call to check up on me every night. In the morning, he and the assisting doctor would stop by my room to see how I was doing. Per the direction of Dr. Parker, the hospital staff was incredible as well. I had such a great experience and couldn't have asked for a better, more caring and experienced doctor. Thank you to Dr. Parker, we are excited about the future and our family!
Dr.William Parker must I say his name again Dr.William Parker there is not enough words to describe Dr. Parker.I searched the Internet for the the best dr that knew how to remove fibroids and Dr.Parker web site came up.I read everything about him.I had gone to two other doctors that said I needed a hysterectomy like yesterday and don't believe anyone else if they told me different. My heart and soul was just not at easy because one they couldn't perform the surgery so they had to find someone to perform the surgery.I made a appointment with Dr.Parker had to send over my CD and MRI results he reviewed them called and went over everything detail for detail.Dr.Parker had me to set up a surgery date with the nurse I flew out to California again Dr.Parker took me in his office and pulled up my MRI we talked about my surgery on that Friday on Monday morning I had my surgery while in surgery he kept the family informed on what was taken place at all times. After the the surgery he came out and talked to the family.I was placed in the hospital for 3 days during my stay in the hospital Dr.Parker came by every morning and called very afternoon.I had no pain from the surgery to now. When I say very knowledgable has a great line of communication bedside manners excellent surgeon I am talking about Dr.Willam Parker.I wish he could teach other doctors across the country. Dr. Parker performed abdominal myomectomy on me in June with great success. Last fall my gynecologist found I had numerous fibroids (largest one is ~10cm) and my size of uterus was about the size of a 12 week pregnancy. The fibroids caused very heavy bleeding and anemia. I consulted with two gynecologists with many years of practices in Austin. Both doctors suggested hysterectomy for my growing fibroid problem. I was told by the two doctors removing the fibroids is a much bigger, much more complicated surgery than hysterectomy and it did not work on my case.
Fortunately, I came across Dr. Parker’s website while I was researching online. Dr. Parker’s website is very informative on fibroid and fibroid research. I immediately contacted Dr. Parker’s office and mailed my MRI reports and CD to seek for a second opinion. Thankfully I was able to get an appointment quickly and it was the best thing ever. At the initial consultation, Dr. Parker showed me the fibroid MRI images and took time to explain all the treatment options on my case, what to expect and the advantages of each option. He also thoroughly answered any questions that I had. Dr. Parker made me feel comfortable right away. He is very knowledgeable and nice. I knew he was the doctor I would trust to actually do the surgery so I decided to go with abdominal myomectomy option.
Eight weeks later I flied back to LA. I had pre-op lab work and pre-surgery appointment with Dr. Parker on Friday. I had myomectomy the following Monday morning at 10:00 at UCLA medical center. Dr. Parker came into the pre-op room to see me before the surgery. The surgery went on very well and took about 1.5 hours. Dr. Parker removed 13 fibroids of various sizes with minimum blood loss. I stayed at UCLA medical center for two more days till Wednesday. I was able to walk to the bathroom the night of the surgery. Dr. Parker stopped by every morning and called me every afternoon. He is very kind and caring with incredible bedside manner. I was discharged the third day and was able to walk back to the apartment four blocks away from UCLA medical center. At day 5, I went back to Dr. Parker’s office and Dr. Parker removed the ON-Q pain pump. The nurse removed my suture at day 7. I stayed in Santa Monica for about 10 days after surgery. From the 3rd day I was out walking around the neighborhood every day and walking helped a lot on recovering. I felt better and stronger each day. I went back to work three weeks after surgery. My heavy bleeding/anemia problem is solved. Also my back pain which bothered me for years is also gone after the surgery! I just went back to Dr. Parker for 6 weeks post-op visit and everything goes well. My uterus size is back to normal. I even did a 3.5 mile hike at Santa Monica Mountains the day after the office visit!
Dr. Parker is the best doctor I ever experienced. His office staff are all very nice and helpful. I feel extremely fortunate to have met Dr. Parker to perform myomectomy on me. I highly recommend Dr. Parker to any women who are bothered by fibroids and look for a second opinion or treatments.
