Ratings for Dr. Robin Rickards
I have to admit after reading some of the comments that were written down at this place that I almost cancelled my surgery. Waiting time had nothing to do with him...... every surgery wait time is controlled by the time the hospital gives each doctor and that in turn is controlled by our beloved BC Government Health Care System. I waited about 16 months for my surgery and was told well in advance it could take longer. I had no problems with this doctor so far...and hope to have none in the future since I have to have the surgery again.......GOOD LUCK ALL
extremely long wait times for surgery, extremely short time spent on care (office visits, bedside) horrible office staff who is rude, impatient and very unhelpful. the office staff member will talk down to you and come across like you are taking up her time by asking simple questions (ie: what time do i come for my appointment?) no calls for appointment reminders and you are expected to drop everything in order to get in to see him. overall, while his surgery practices may be good, my experience was not pleasant. pushes private surgery and because that is too expensive, it seems like the punishment is a long wait time for your surgery. very little attention given during office appointments, it feels as if you are too much of a bother and you are taking up his time. while people may say this has to do with the government it comes down to basic care needs of patients. no one should feel like a number and that their health is not worth a doctors time to take more than 5 mins of assesment
Would not recommend this doctor. Got the same advice in waiting for wrist surgery that woud have been day surgery - wait two years or go next door to my private clinic and pay me to do it in less time. Arrogant, stonewalling, impatient, rude office help and lacking in compassion. I thought it was a health systems issue but now i see it is a money grabbing issues. Totally frustrated.
Eight weeks ago I had a complete hip replacement done by Dr. Rickards. I believe if you don't ask questions, often a specialist assumes you know the answer. I initially had questions to keep myself well informed and have had questions for my follow up visits once again, so I am an informed patient. Had I not asked any questions, it would be a safe assumption on his part I already know the answers. The patient has to start the dialogue ! I have had Dr. Rickards to three separate non related operations and had him paged when my mother broke her hip, knowing his expertise would provide us both with a comfort level. At this time, I am eight weeks post surgery, have a complete new hip, he gave me the go ahead to have a much needed laminectomy two weeks ago. I have always found Dr. Rickards to be a consumate professional, very knowledgeable and does extremely good work. I HIGHLY recommend him !!
I was told that the surgery wait for my shoulder injury would be a 1 year wait on the hospital waiting list or i could pay privatly and get it done in the next 2 months. I waited the one year and when the one year rolled around i was told by the receptionist that no i wouldnt be getting my surgery this year it would take at least one more year! Need less to say i went to another surgeon and had the surgery complete in the next 8 months as aposed to waiting on rickards extravagant waiting list. Also i was told by my new surgeon that the surgery rickards was going to be doing on my shoulder was an out dated surgery and has been out of practice for the last 15 years. When my surgery and physio were complete from going to a new surgeon which took me to 2 years with my waiting list with rickards i got a call and was asked if i wanted to continue on his waiting list which would have taken be past a 2 year wait. Unbelievable!
Wrecked my knee playing soccer, instead of waiting for MRI was told he could do "exploratory' surgery and fix it while he was there. Fixed some cartalidge, did rehab, knee wasn't better. Had MRI and found out it was a torn MCL! How do you miss that! Went to diff MD for MCL repair
Similar to others who rated this arrogant Doctor: I waited 3 months to get in to see him--my GP gave me an old address which caused me to be 10 min late. I phoned to explain and to let them know but the rude receptionist blew me off and told me I'd have to rebook--another 3 months wait!! When I finally got in to see him and explained the situation he didnt care at all. Furthermore he only spent about 10min with me explaining an upcoming hip surgery. I found him arrogant and NOT very thorough---there is no way I would let him operate on me. Luckily I had my GP book me an appt with another Surgeon for 2nd opinion at the same time. Dr Duncan in Vancouver--far more experienced ,proffessional and thorough than Rickards
