I went into Altru's ER for problems related to gallstones. My pain was at a 7, and Dr. Schanzenbach came in and lectured me on what to eat, gave me pain medication, and discharged me. He told me he would prescribe pain meds to take home, only for the nurse to return and say they weren't giving me any. There was no diagnostic check beyond a blood draw (Hepatic function panel), and I returned to the ER two days later and saw Dr. Weiser, who promptly admitted me for gallbladder inflammation (Cholecystitis). I was at significant risk of not being able to have the cholecystectomy laparoscopically because of Dr. Shanzenbach's lacking of thorough testing. He did not order an ultrasound. He seemed rushed, but I'm sure that in the ER, there are more urgent cases than a gallbladder episode.
