Ratings for Dr. Donald B. Wender
I am incredibly satisfied with the care I received from Dr. Wender. He's extremely knowledgeable. He submitted me for a study, which ended up being extremely productive in fighting my disease. He is an absolutely amazing doctor and I was lucky I ended up at his office the day I did.
DW misdiagnosed me. Had I not went to Omaha for a second opinion---then was sent to the Mayo Clinic I would have been dead. Quote and I'll never forget his line, "come back in 6-8 months and will look at you again." That was Jan 2014. I would have been dead by then. Oncologist Dr. Ralph Hauke of Omaha immediately sent me to Dr. Eugene Kwon at Mayo. I was full of cancer. They saved my life. Ok, forget he was so far off base on my condition his mannerisms and bedside manners are HORRIBLE. The jerk giggles all the time no matter how grave the discussion is. All of my care is still in Omaha and Mayo. I wouldn't send my dog to Siouxland Urology or the Cancer Center here..... mjrod
He treated my dad for esophageal cancer. Waited months between each PET scan, even after he realized the cancer was spreading aggressively. Did not change treatment plans even when they weren't working. My dad died a month after Wender said he was terminal. Never called or checked on him in any way, but a different doctor at Nylen did. Wender then refused to sign the death certificate because he "hadn't seen that patient for months" causing unnecessary stress on a grieving family. Stubborn man, will not change treatment plans, will not help in any way after a patient's passing, causes stress on grieving families who have funerals to plan. Would never recommend him to anyone.
Let's be real, Dr Wender didn't have the best bedside manner but he is knowledgeable, proactive in his treatments and no B.S. If you need handsomely, doctor Rao (also an excellent physician) is probably the better choice, but don't discount Dr Wender based only on his direct personality and lack of pampering. If you give as good as you get and are assertive, he's not hard to get along with
This man will save your life, as he did with my father. All you nega-****es, do you want your doctor to cry with you or save your butt? I would much rather he be good at his job, tell it like it is, and save me. Then I can go get ice cream and have a pity party after that.
This doctor is an oncologist, which means he deals mostly with people who are fighting for their lives. While he is very smart, he has zero people skills or compassion for what his patients are going through. If you have cancer and are the type of person that requires your doctor to listen to you and take your concerns seriously, I would not recommend this doctor.
