I wish I had had communication and information offered post surgery. The only thing I was told, and this was while I was still groggy from the anaesthetic and not able to ask questions, was "Given your age I decided to take the nerve that controlled erections." . After that all mermbers of the medical team ignored me eventhough they came into the room and talked to the two younger patients. It seems like a drastic thing to do, with no medical reason to do so. Perhaps that is why it seemed that all medical personnel were afraid to approach my bedisde and provide information or an opportunity to ask questions. To this day I have never been given an explanatin as to why my age resulted in such a drastic action. Perhaps my age was also the reason I was given no information prior to discharge . I have continued to try to get answers to no avail. I have continued to have flow issues with a drastic reduction in flow and once again the only explanation I have been given is my age. Funny that my age suddenly became a major factor and the only diagnostic procedures seemed to be checking for bloackage which was not an issue. I did ask about other things related to having had the nerve removed but got little in the way of information so have had to learn as the years go by. Those who have been treated with respect and caring and given information are most fortunate,

I had a da Vinci robotic laparoscopic prostatectomy. The surgery was fully explained, well executed and post op follow-up was excellent! The whole surgical team was approachable, helpful and, most importantly, "human". The final pathology report shows me to be clear of all cancerous tissue; no follow-up treatment required. Thank you to all involved!

"Above and Beyond" Dr. Estey recently performed a robotic laparoscopic prostatectomy surgery on my dad. From the very first appointment till today, Dr.Estey has demonstrated compassion, thoughtfulness and care towards our family. His honesty, and confidence in his own abilities, helped put our minds at ease and he was always available to answer questions we had. His receptionist Julie was also excellent at booking follow-up appointments in a timely and efficient manner. Although he has been practicing for many years and has probably had thousands of patients, he makes you feel like you're his only patient at the time he is treating you - with his personal visits at the hospital and follow-up calls, which he personally makes. We will forever be grateful to Dr. Estey for sharing his expertise and skill with our family. Dr. Estey is easily the BEST at his trade. Truly an exceptional, exemplary doctor!

It is nice to see that patients are getting information. I wish some meember of the medical team would have had the concern, integrity and courage to talk to me about the possible nerve damage that has left me with total lack of sensation when urinating and a flow rate one third of normal. Getting misinformation or being told what the norm is does ot help wwhen you will never achieve those levels.

Well... where does one begin? Our story starts off in Calgary where my father was diagnosed with prostate cancer and was denied a radical prostatectomy by both of the urologists we consulted with due his very high PSA. They believed that the surgery would be of no net benefit due to their belief that his cancer was metastatic, though the only evidence proposed was the very high PSA. Try as we might to convince them that the PSA was not a perfect marker for metastatic prostate cancer, especially in light of the clean CT and bone scans, they could not be persuaded. On the advice of friends and family we left Calgary for a second opinionin Edmonton, where we had the great fortune of meeting Dr. Estey. To be clear, he did not sugar coat anything and told us that, based on the prevailing medical wisdom, that it was very likely that my father had metastatic cancer, but that he believed that even if there was a chance that the surgery was curative, due to it being the standard of care for someone with my father's profile, he would perform the surgery. The long story short: Dr. Estey gave us renewed hope in the medical profession. We were treated like human beings and not an elevated PSA score. His kindness, warmth, knowledge, patience, and surgical skill puts him in a class of his own. With the grace of God, I believe that he saved my father's life, however, even if the surgery did not resolve my father's cancer Dr. Estey still lived up to his own standards of providing patients with the best standard of care possible. He was wiling to go the extra mile for father and we are forever in his debt. Dr. Estey is so much more than a surgeon - he is a hero.
