Ratings for Dr. Joseph P. Turk
I just had my initial consultation about hip replacement surgery. I had read the reviews on this site, but was not deterred. I prefer an excellent surgeon to a chatty, perhaps less qualified physician. He was kind, humorous, reviewed the procedure he will do and answered my questions. I feel completely at ease having this doctor replace my hips. Will give an update post-op.
Excellent surgeon devoid of personality. Would be better suited to job with no contact with people. A shameful waste of great talent. Wonder if he will ever work on people skills. Anyone who disagrees with him is told they have a bad attitude which is hampering their healing process. A bully.
Dr. Turk has the worst bedside manner I have ever come across with any Doctor ever. He operated on my mother-in-law who had dementia and was awful with dealing with her and me. I have been told by my friends in the medical field that he is the BEST surgeon, so if you can stand interacting with him it's a win, win. Wouldn't you think he would read a few of these reviews and work on his interaction with people if he is SO SMART!
On my first visit with Dr. Turk he took the time to explain in detail the total hip replacement procedure, showing me also a specimen of the most recent meshed titanium and ceramic implant that he would use in my case. I was impressed with the his directness and sincerity. He answered each and every one of my questions. I appreciated his great bedside manner (and the fact that we could converse in French), and left feeling confident that I was in the best of hands. 7 hours after the surgery I was trained to get in and out of bed and was able to walk with a walker in my room. Dr. Turk discharged me from the hospital two days later, after ascertaining that I would be fine to recuperate at home. When I visited Dr. Turk in his practice two weeks later, I walked unaided. While showing me new X-rays he explained “This is how an arthroplasty should look". I feel immensely pleased with Dr. Turk’s ‘golden hands’ and with the transplant surgery that he performed on me! On the 17th day after my hip transplant, I walked (unaided of course!) 1.6 miles return from my home, on the Oak Creek Canyon Trail, in the Conejo Valley Conservancy. I am indeed ‘back in business’ with my Santa Monica Mountains hikes! Thank you Dr. Turk! Domenico de Masi
I could go on and on about my experience with this doctor but he is not worthy of so many words. He is the most arrogant, disrespectful and down right rude individual I have ever had the displeasure of meeting. If you want to feel comfortable going under the knife , do yourself a favor and go to someone else. This man is a creep!!!!
DARN STRAIGHT!!!!! I met him today to see what my options are about my knees and I've had a few surgeries in the past and this man is the rudest, pompous idiot I ever met. I truly do not give a hoot if you are a doctor ,as in any other profession, you treat another person with respect . If you are sooo good you wouldn't need to be an idiot. Moving on to a better doctor to whom I feel comfortable with , which is what a person wants as well as quality of service. I do not really care about waiting 45 mins. past my scheduled appointment if he is a great doctor, but to top it of this idiot was 45 mins. late. Good luck to everyone who needs to have surgery to enjoy a better quality of life.
I agree with the negative reviews. The front office staff was not welcoming boarding on rude. Waited over an hour in the lobby with no explanation as to delay even though other patients were coming and going ahead of us. The x-ray tech was harried. The nurse was somewhat friendly. The doc was arrogant. Spoke only in medical/technical terminology. Did not offer me treatment options stating his was the only way to go. First time I've ever had to PAY for copies of my x-rays!
